We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosalyn Bellamy Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosalyn, how does your business contribute to your community and make a difference to others?
In a world with so many diverse skin tones, I felt it was my obligation to cater to everyone. Being a black woman I visited several makeup counters growing up where they didn’t have my foundation color or the “professional” makeup artist didn’t even know how to do makeup for darker skin tones. I felt like something was wrong with my skin or that my skin tone wasn’t as important as lighter skin tones. Several years later, these experiences are the reasons why our company’s mission is so adamant to catering to all skin tones. No matter your shade, Ros B Beauty will always offer unparalleled products and artistry that caters to every customer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I just celebrated 20 years as a professional makeup artist…I honestly can’t believe it! I have always love the beauty industry since I was a pre-teen and knew I wanted to be in beauty or fashion someday. My first makeup job was at a Clinique counter where I got my foundation. They taught me so much about skin and basic makeup application. I still longed for more artistry, so I then accepted a position at MAC Cosmetics and worked for some other amazing big brands that taught me so much! Little did I know, God was preparing me for my own cosmetic line that was in the works. After working in retail for so many years, I was ready to step out on my own and work for myself. It was scary and exciting all at the same. Trying to build clientele when no one knows who you are can be challenging and there were many days when the phone wouldn’t ring, but that’s when you have to get creative and never give up. Fast forward to today, I am happy to say that I have a luxury cosmetic line of my own and an AMAZING makeup/hair team that is the core of how Ros B Beauty operates. I wouldn’t be able to run this business without them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, as a busy mother of 2 small children, wife, and running a business, I rarely get a chance to get out like I used to. But, I do love the Legacy West Plano area. It’s full of great shops, restaurants, hotels etc. Definitely a one stop shop of great entertainment.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my late father, James Bellamy. He was also an entrepreneur and taught me my work ethic, customer service skills, and how to build relationships with my clients. My father helped me start my company, all the way to down to purchasing my LLC. He believed in me and always said that one day, the name Ros B Beauty will be in lights, so I’m working hard to make that affirmation come true. My dad was and always will be my #1 supporter.
