We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robyn, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Making an impact on someone’s life is what makes me happy. Whether my time with them was for a few minutes for a conversation or for years within a friendship, I hope I was able to better their life in one way or another. I think I love this so much because I believe sometimes people need that. People need kindness and motivation and I make it a point to share that with whoever I cross paths with.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
RetroHype is my sneaker reselling business that I started in 2019. I have always had a love for sneakers and Jordans specifically. When I was younger my family didn’t have the money for the Jordan’s I wanted so I typically rocked Starburys or baby phat. In high school I would spend hours customizing sneakers on Nike ID that I never bought but I just loved the idea of it. When I was a junior, my mom became successful in her industry and she was able to buy me my first pair of hyped Jordans that just came out, and I was hooked ever since. My sophomore year of college I decided to start a sneaker repair business which didn’t find much success. I then decided to pivot into sneaker reselling and from their my business has taken off. It hasn’t been easy. Learning all the different types of sneakers, their values, and how to authenticate them has taken time, but it has been worth it. I typically do most of business on social media and reselling sites, but I just did my first event early in November and it was a success! I want the world to know that RetroHype is here to stay, and as we grow i plan on getting a store front and being able to positively impact my community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely have to take them to some of my favorite restaurants such as Babes, Mama Cucas, and Rocco’s pizza. We would do a ton of shopping because my best friend loves sneakers and clothes like I do, and is a reseller of vintage clothing, shout-out to @Singlestichco.. We would shop at Traders Village, the Galleria mall, and local reseller shops in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. My mom is my mentor, my best friend, and most of all my motivation. She has the purest heart and the most brilliant business mind, and because of her I have been able to be successful. No matter what is going on I know I can pick up the phone and ask her for advice and support. I wouldn’t be here today without her.
