We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
RobertBrews was created to fill a niche discovered through my own personal journey. I learned firsthand that necessity is indeed the mother of invention! After several heart attacks and open-heart surgery in 2015, my doctor insisted I cut salt out of my diet if I wanted to live.

As someone who had been grilling and smoking foods my entire life, since my dad taught me as a kid, it’s something I’ve always lived for. However, I struggled to find flavorful rubs and seasonings that were low in sodium, yet still tasted great. That’s when I decided to create my own.

In 2020, I launched six low sodium seasonings/rubs that are so good you want to put them on everything,

What should our readers know about your business?
Over the years I’ve ran Businesses for others and myself as well. When I decided after running a large Retail store for 10 years I wanted to work for myself. My friends and family had been enjoying my Low Sodium rubs and seasonings for years and encouraged me to start selling them. Thanks to my business mentors I got Robertbrews up and running and the business has been steadily growing via Farmers Markets here in San Antonio.

It has been a wonderful journey so far

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Great thing about San Antonio is there is so much to do and places to visit. Since I’m a Craft brewer & Foodie I would make sure they visit some of the cities best Micro Breweries. First on the list would be Weathered Souls Brewing, Longtab Brewing and Second Pitch Brewing. San Antonio has a eclectic food scene so Places Like Curry Boys , 2 Bros BBQ, 410 Diner, Sawasdee Thai Cuisine. Riverwalk and the Alamo are for sure places to walk around and get that San Antonio Vibe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can honestly say that more than a few have helped me on this journey. Stephan Paprocki of Texas Black Gold Garlic has been my number one go to mentor since meeting him in 2020. Also Chris Cook of Special Leaf Tea has been very helpful. Last but not least has been Leslie from Texas Hill Country Hot Sauce.
