We had the good fortune of connecting with Rob McAfee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob, what do you attribute your success to?
To me personally, a delusional belief in myself is by far the most important factor in my success.
I’ve been in situations where my electric is going to get shut off, the repo man is looking for my car, & not having money to even feed myself.
Even in those times, when most people would break, I had a delusional belief in myself and my ability. I have always believed I was mean’t for more.
That has driven me more than anything else.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Insurance Sales Lab — We help P&C Insurance Agents run a high producing, profitable agency.
I am most proud of the impact we have not only on agents businesses, but the domino effect of their success. They can support their family and make their dreams come true. They can pay their employees more, which in turn improves their lives. They can start giving their clients better coverage instead of trying to beat prices.
The journey has been a wild one. At 21, I moved to DFW with my wife (girlfriend at that point) on a whim, it was a “burn the boats” type of move. I started in the insurance business at 19 and it was all I knew, so I got a job at a start-up agency. For about a year, I was just a salesperson but I put my all into the company and really bought into the vision of what it could be.
After about 18 months, we were a top 5 agency in the entire company (over 12,000 agencies). At this point, my role changed. My agency owner seen something in me and I became a partner in his first business which is Insurance Sales Lab.
Some lessons I learned along the way were very helpful. The first being, be a sponge. Find a mentor and learn EVERYTHING. Another is, your life can change very fast if you commit yourself to something.
I want the world to know that we do our very best to serve our clients at the highest level. Early mornings, late nights, even sleepless nights. More importantly, we practice what we preach. Everything we teach comes from experience. We’ve been able to help struggling agents keep their doors open and successful agents reach a level they didn’t know they had.
We are obsessed with the process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re visiting, the first place we would go is Frisco. I love the area by the star so we would probably grab food at Sidecar Social, City Works, or The Common Table.
We would have to go on a tour of the AT&T Stadium and see it all!
Then the Dallas Arboretum.
And to cap it off, we would go to Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout the people who seen my potential when the world didn’t. My grandmother, Hannah Varner (My wife), Jesse Mazzia (my first mentor) and Vlad & Mike Cherchenko (the ones who gave me my first real shot at being successful).
