We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rita, how do you think about risk?
Opening your own law firm is all about taking a risk. I have realized that anything worth while will most likely involve some level of risk. In order to grow, make an impact and to be successful, you must have faith in yourself and faith in God to give you the wisdom you lack. The vision that I have for my life is one that includes service to others, a financial legacy for my family and a desire to truly enjoy the life God has given to me. I know that unless I am willing to take a step outside my box, success will be limited to that box.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Law Offices of Rita C. Dixon, PLLC is a Christian law firm serving the DFW metroplex. We strive to provide high quality legal representation you can trust. We hope that as a client you feel valued and that you know you were represented well.
We focus on probate law: probating your Last Will and Testament with the court, determining your legal heirs so that property can properly transfer and working with families after a loved one has passed. We handle estate planning: drafting your Last Will and Testament, Statutory Durable Power of Attorney, Medical Power of Attorney, HIPAA Release, Appointment of Disposition of Remains and Declaration of Guardian or Revocable Living Trusts. We also represent clients in family law: divorce, child support, child custody modifications, adoptions, protective orders and enforcements.
I am most proud of the work I have done in my 15 years of practice knowing that the clients I have represented I have done so to the best of my ability.
I am most excited about pouring more into the community to provide community education on probate and family law and also supporting community organizations.
I would say that growing a business takes patience and you have to give yourself a little grace in the journey. Of course being a woman owned minority law firm is not easy but it is very rewarding to know you are helping bring a positive image of diversity to the profession.
Overcoming adversity and challenges are intertwined into the everyday work I do. You have to try to stay positive, forward thinking and grateful. I believe that these are the lessons that I have learned and revisit.
I would love for the world to know that we are blessed to bless others and that our life should be a reflection of who we truly are on the inside. It is not about the words we say or the possessions we have, but the intangible that is tangibly seen in the lives we have touched.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The metroplex is stacked full of fun and enjoyable attractions. One of my favorite experiences was taking up a session on archery in North Dallas-so fun! I also love to visit Legacy West and stop by Sprinkles cupcakes. One of the best places for a nice steak dinner is Bob’s Steak & Chop House in Plano. I would also recommend a show at the Jubilee Theatre in Fort Worth or going to the Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie for horse racing!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The love and support of my husband has been key to my success. Without his trust, I know that I would not have been able to step out on my own to start a business. Also, I credit my late maternal grandmother and my mother for instilling in me the power of determination and the power of prayer to change life for the better.
