Meet Ricki-Lyn Calabro | Candle Maker & Social Worker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricki-Lyn Calabro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricki-Lyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had a love for things that smell good—candles, perfumes, fresh cleaning products. There’s something so powerful about how a scent can instantly transport you to a memory or moment in time.
As I grew older, I started paying more attention to the products I was using and was shocked to learn how many of them were filled with harmful chemicals like parabens and phthalates. What I thought was harmless was actually affecting my health.
That’s what inspired me to start my own business—creating products that make your space smell amazing without compromising your health. I believe you shouldn’t have to choose between a beautiful scent and a clean, safe environment.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own a candle business called Calabro Candle Co., which specializes in hand-poured non-toxic candles and wax melts. I have also recently launched car diffusers and hope to expand in the future.
My business is different from others because it features high-end ingredients, so people can enjoy them without compromising their health. All of our products are made to be phthalate and paraben free. We will never use ingredients that contain carcinogens or hormone disrupters, which can be commonly found in other candles. Additionally, all of our products are made by one person (me) to ensure quality control.
I’m most proud of the community that I have created and met through this small business. It’s so special to see familiar faces and have customers who become like friends.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am not from the DFW area, but if I were visiting DFW with a friend, I would plan our weekend around an activity. I really love football, so we would have to go to the AT&T Stadium to see a game and, of course, check out Texas Live.
For restaurants, we would try The Woolworth, St. Martin’s Wine Bistro, and Mister O1 Extraordinary Pizza. I haven’t been to any of these places yet, but they’ve been recommended and I cannot wait to try them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and constant support of my husband.
