Meet Ricardo Tomas | Wedding Architect

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricardo Tomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricardo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My educational background is already helping clients merge or build a design for their home with my interior design knowledge so, creating a design scheme for a wedding couple is pretty much the same but, the only added ingredient is the emotional aspect which actually is my favorite part. Emotion drives colors, feelings, wishes, visions for my couples and it makes the planning process more meaningful when decisions are made based on feelings and each couples’ interests.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a self-owned LGBTQ and Hispanic entrepreneur and have been in the business for 20 years. My background of interior and architectural schooling has given me the tools I need to help my couples visualize the setup for ceremony and reception spaces. Even at 20 years’ experience in the wedding industry, I am still learning and implementing new and innovative ideas for my couple’s final layout decisions. I also have the pristine and detailed mentality after working retail with the Walt Disney Company for about 7 years. I merge my wedding, interior/architectural design and pageantry into everything I do for each and every wedding.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a Texas experience, I would take them to Ft. Worth to experience truly the Texas vibe with longhorns, cowboys and wardrobe styling.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, a big drive for me stems from my mentor who is also a wedding planner and designer, David Tutera. He has been in business right before I have which is about 20 years plus and when I first started, I used to watch his TV shows and get inspired, and it gave me the confidence that I could do most anything I could dream up for my couples.
