We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhegan Stromile and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhegan, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Dallas and have grown up in Keller, TX. I love to bake and dance, specifically, praise dance with my youth group at St. John Church Unleashed (Southlake), where Denny D. Davis is my senior pastor. I think that my parents keeping me in the church and letting me learn about life, through experience, has given me a really good ground to stand on in everything that I do. I love all kinds of music, too! To sum it all up, I’m just a 12 year old girl that loves life and wants to share it with the world with baking……where everything starts and ends with pound cake!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Poundcake Princess is not just a name, it is my brand. I try to keep the “princess” attitude in all I do. I make sure that I present the best cake for each customer. All cakes are baked to order and are made from scratch. My goal is to give each cake it’s own personal time, so I don’t bake in batches, which helps me focus on making sure they are the same each and every time.
It takes a lot of practice to make sure all cakes come out the same each time, so there are times we are in the “lab” testing and retesting. There have been a lot of cakes thrown in the garbage, lol, because something hasn’t gone the way it was expected. In the end, I make sure every customer gets what they are paying for.
My biggest lesson I have learned is that, no matter how hard it gets, never give up. I can hear my Grandpa saying, “Try again. If it doesn’t work, it’s ok, try again….”
I’d love for the world to know that Poundcake Princess is here to stay and if you haven’t tried a poundcake, what are you waiting for :-)? I want to share the love I have with anyone that is willing to try it. I want to break the rumor of pound cakes being too dry and heavy….Poundcake Princess can show you just how fluffy and moist a pound cake can be.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d want to take them to DownTown Dallas to see the great museums we have. We’d go to my favorite place to eat, the Sugar Factory and take pictures/selfies on all the great backgrounds they have!
I’d want to take them to Medieval Times. It may not sound like a place a teenager would want to go but it’s actually pretty exciting once you are inside and see all the action.
We’d have to check out the Wax Museum! I’ve only been once but I’d love to go again now that I’m older.
Oh, and a place I’d love to take them to eat, is The Magic Time Machine! Their food is really good and there’s so many fun things to do while you wait for your food to arrive.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout goes to my late grandpa, who helped me start my business before passing from COVID-19. He taught me his personal recipe/technique for pound cakes and is why I am the Poundcake Princess to date. Every cake I bake, has him in mind and he is the reason I keep going…..to carry on his legacy. I shoutout to my parents, too, because they help me keep the business going and supports me every step of the way! All of my friends and family have never doubted me and push me to go stronger every day.
