We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Southern and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always loved music since I was little, but when I was 14 or 15 I realized how much I wanted to do it for a living

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer song write based in LA. The thing that set me a part is having a back ground with abuse with an abusive father and being a part of the LGBTQ+ community. I’m most excited about releasing music. I’ve been writing an Album and I’m so excited for everyone to hear it. I got where I am today with hard work and support, for anyone wanting to do a career in music just know that it takes time it’s a journey. I still have a way to go but little by little I’m getting there. I got through the challenges with my support system and trying to think through the problem. Something I’ve learned is you have to put your self out there some of my most successful moments happened because I made my self be bold and get out there and talk to people. Networking is so important. Over all I want people to know me for music and not being alone. I just want to be someone that helps people and make them feel ok or happy. I deal with mental health issues and it can be really hard sometimes and if something I do can help someone with that. That’s my main goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m based in LA county. So I would take them to blue bottle coffee, or commissary coffee both in LA coffee is big for me. Then time them to Tocaya Orgainca walk the Americana of course walk Hollywood Blvd. Find some live music. For anyone who is coming from put of town I try my best to tailor what we doing around what the like and try to only go places they don’t have where they’re from

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First my mom Jennifer Southern she has been the best support system, and the second person is Naomi Samilton she’s been a music mentor and has really pushed me to be creative.
