We had the good fortune of connecting with Re-Shawndra Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Re-Shawndra, what inspires you?
Without order or priority here is a list of things and people that inspire or have inspired me in my life.

My son, partner and family: Their love and support has been outstanding. They are funny, kind, tough and caring. The way they push and nurture me is commendable and I know that I am lucky to have them.

Love: In all context is an amazing thing. The respect and magic that it provides is never ending and it never fails.

Friends: No matter where I’ve lived in my 32 years I’ve always had friends who supported me, pushed me and celebrated some of my biggest achievements with me. They have shown me the kind of love that exists through respect and mutual adoration.

Faith: Not just spiritual faith but faith that you know no matter what everything will be ok.

Music: The creativity and talent it takes to make music is very inspirational to me. What we think are the best songs moves us and inspires us in tremendous ways and thats a beautiful thing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently residing in Avondale, Arizona as a full-time Middle School Social Studies Teacher, I have a different appreciation for life and her pleasantries. Waking up every day to mountains is a completely different world from how I grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. My upbringing, college experiences, and basketball have awarded me many opportunities to being a well-versed, well-educated woman. I earned my BA in Broadcast Journalism as well as Masters in New Media Journalism. I always look back on precious moments in my life and attempt to relive them in my mind. Special moments were easily shared because there was almost always a photographer present! That’s where my passion for photography was birthed!

One of the lessons I’ve learned is that you shouldn’t worry about being successful that’s when you run into frequent difficulties. Instead love what you do, work hard and stay consistent the success will soon follow.

My brand and what I stand for is based on a four letter word, LOVE. My hope is that people feel the love in some way through every picture I capture. Like my brother always says, “We are all Born Into Power”, and I’ve finally tapped into mine.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in the city to eat would be Bobby-Q’s, Steak 44, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Pita Jungle, RA Sushi, and Fogo de Chao just to name a few. Downtown Phoenix art district is a great place to walk around while admiring the beautiful art while doing some local shopping. Another great place would be Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s a four story mall with amazing places to eat and also holds other attractions perfect for date night or a family outing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to show love right now to a hand full of people so I’ll just get started…

Giving honor and glory to the most high and my parents for providing for me and nurturing me in ways that I needed. They kept me out of trouble and harms way and were my biggest fans growing up. I am thankful for the love I received even through difficulties. As I’ve come to learn and know, parenting does not come with a manual or some type of regulation book. We live, we love, we learn, and we grow. So, thank you Mom and Dad for always wanting the best for us and seeing so much success in us.

My son Isaac, I truly feel I will always need my son no matter what age I am. He’s helped me love and grow in ways I never knew I could. He has made me laugh, proud, cry, cheered me up, seen me fall, he has hugged me tight and kept me strong. God made a promise to me that I’ll have a friend forever in him and I’m so thankful! He’s my better half.

My partner Felicia. No matter where we are in this world I know I’ll always have a best friend in her. She brings me so much joy and laughter. The kind that makes your belly ache and your nose snort. She lets me cry, she motivates me, she supports me, promotes my work, and she’s always honest with me. The best part about our relationship is that growing and healing ourselves is our top priority. Thats what makes our love through partnership and friendship ever lasting.

The last bunch of my favorite people I’d like to shoutout are my siblings. I’m the baby of 8 children, our bond and relationships as adults are pretty impeccable. My siblings are the ones who taught me about life. They taught me what it means to be kind, caring and fair to others. They taught me teamwork, conflict resolutions, but most importantly they taught me love. I haven’t always been the easiest person to deal with growing up but their unconditional support has been unwavering. Everything I am they helped me to be.
