Meet Rayne Lawrence | Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rayne Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rayne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up a very artistic child I come from a long line of musicians and music has always been my first passion. Started learning piano at 10, guitar at 12, and I’ve been singing my whole life. Growing into my teen years I was always into that edgier look, I would bleach, cut, and color my hair myself as an artistic expression of who I was. Later down the line I realized that was something I loved to do, help others express themselves through their appearance. I started cosmetology school at the age of 17, graduated at 18 and in these very few years have made a great clientele for myself and opened up a small business I call Wicked Pixie Salon. I wanted to help others gain their own artistic freedom and feel comfortable in their skin as who they are. I specialize in the edgier side of cuts, and men’s fades. I also work at a small business salon called Super Styles in Lakeworth Texas with a wonderful bunch of stylists who specialize in everything from color, fades, and texturized cuts.
To give people that space to have artistic freedom in what they love is what I enjoy.
On the side I get to work with my band Bonnie Drive and I am so happy to have picked a career where I can have creativity all throughout my daily life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been a big advocate for individuality. I feel like hair can play a big part in that. When I meet with my clients I like to get to know who they are, what they do in their daily lives and that helps me cultivate their new look thats is special to to them.
Starting out in the beauty industry was hard, I had this idea that it was going to be very easy going. To be honest I was quiet lost I started in a salon where everyone was already so skilled and it set me back from the thought that I already had it all figured out. It actually takes a lot of hard work, exhaustion, and lessons. No matter how much experience I have in this industry everyday I am still learning and growing into a better stylist.
My brand is individuality, creative freedom, feeling comfortable in your own skin. To help people feel more at peace with who they are and the beauty they already radiate that’s my goal. All I’m doing is accentuating the beauty already there.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I personally have been vegetarian for about 1 and half years now, when I come across amazing vegan food I just have to take someone I know. I love Spiral Diner in Fortworth and in Denton, there is also a food trunk in Denton Tx called plow burger . They have a new burger of the week every week and are plant based! Even the meat eaters I bring enjoy these places!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Id say my aunt Marjorie was the one who helped me jumpstart my career. She is the Co-owner of I.T.S Academy of Beauty, they have cosmetology schools all around Texas and other areas of the USA. Growing up anytime I wanted to try out a new style I would go up to the school and the girls there would help me out. That was my first real introduction into a salon environment and I was always so fascinated. She has worked her way up through the beauty industry and is an amazing business woman and such an inspiration for me and my success.
