We had the good fortune of connecting with Randi Dukes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randi, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is always on the forefront of my mind and is one of the reasons I got into real estate a few years ago. As a single mom of multiple kids, I balance a lot of plates and I needed a career with flexibility. Real estate allows me to schedule appointments around important events in my kids’ lives. I can watch a soccer game and then go show houses in the evening. My family is my top priority but I also have to succeed at my job in order to provide for them. There isn’t necessarily a balance as much as a give and take. At different times, different parts of my life require more time and effort and it’s always evolving.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Three years ago, I pivoted in my career path. I had been a content creator for about ten years but I was feeling burned out and wanted something with a bit more consistency. I got my real estate license and jumped in, just as the pandemic hit. It was an interesting time to transform my career but I was already prepared to work hard to build my business so I persevered, overcame some of the pandemic obstacles, worked hard, and ended up as Rookie of the Year in my brokerage. Since then, I’ve continued to build my business into something I’m really proud of. Consistent hard work pays off.
The biggest joy in my business is building relationships with my clients. It’s such an honor to be able to educate and guide clients through one of the biggest financial decisions they’ll make. I’ve met so many incredible people that I probably wouldn’t have crossed paths with if it weren’t for this job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the DFW metroplex. It’s a big city but the different areas throughout the metroplex make it feel like a much smaller community. And it’s a really fun place to entertain friends!
If I was hanging out with my bestie, we’d hit up a lot of different areas. Coffee shops are, of course, at the top of the list. There’s very little I love more than coffee. My favorite shops include Novel in Flower Mound, La La Land in Dallas, and Ascension in Coppell but there are great coffee shops all throughout the metroplex. Bishop Arts is a must because of the great photo spots, cute shops to wander through, and fun restaurants. We’d hit up Grandscape to ride the ferris wheel and grab cocktails and dinner at Seven Doors {the tempura calamari is amazing}. The square in Denton is always fun for shopping, coffee, and the best candy shop. And Southlake Town Square is a no-brainer because you can’t beat the shopping.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Any success I’ve had in my job has been a team effort with my five kids. From my teens to my young adults, my kids have always pushed me, encouraged me, motivated me, and picked up the slack so that I can give my career the time and effort it needs. They keep me focused on what’s truly important, they remind me to stop and smell the roses, and they are truly the brighest light in my life. When I’m lucky enough to have them all home, I look around and just think how incredibly blessed I am to have this crew.
