Meet Rachel Clark | Women’s Western Clothing Brand Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that business will always come with a level of risk, especially when it comes to e-commerce businesses. However, I do think that the risk needs to be calculated and thought out. I don’t believe that we excel by staying within our comfort zones, and I believe that we need to have a healthy level of fear when it comes to success and reaching our goals. For me, that fear became apparent when I purchased my first industrial embroidery machine and quit my safe 9-5 job to run my brand new business full time. It was scary! However, the support of my community came through and the risk paid off immensely. We have to spend money in order to make money, right?

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wolf Creek Cowgirl Co. is a lifestyle brand which represents the mountain cowgirl and is inspired by my own life growing up in rural Montana. We specialize in creating and selling quality women’s western apparel for the rebellious cowgirl – the cowgirl who feels like she doesn’t necessarily fit into the rest of the western fashion industry, and wants apparel that stands out. Here at Wolf Creek Cowgirl Co., we aim to inspire women while also simultaneously providing clothing that is unique. Our brand is made up of an incredible community of women who are kind, outgoing, and multi-faceted. We also aim to preach the love of Jesus and make sure to let every woman know that they are valuable and worthy.
Wolf Creek Cowgirl Co. is named after the little canyon town of Wolf Creek, Montana, where I spent a lot of time as a kid. This brand not only represents the rebel spirit of the mountain cowgirl, but also how multi-faceted western women can be.
This journey has been far from smooth (and I think most business owners can agree with that). We have had many obstacles; one of the largest being that we are running a Montana apparel brand out of a fifth wheel trailer in the middle of Texas. I get “cabin fever” quite often (my personality type is not meant to work from home), therefore I have a structured routine in which I stick with every week (seeing friends, exercising often, eating well, journaling and therapy, etc.). I have also learned to be organized with my space within the fifth wheel to accommodate for the growing brand. Learning how to start a business on my own has been messy, but so worth it. I have made MANY mistakes (most of them being expensive), but I truly don’t believe in failure – it’s just a part of life and that’s how we learn to do better next time. “Failure” is just a lesson.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live near Dallas TX (we are Montana folks temporarily living in the Sherman area), we usually end up at the Fort Worth Stockyards for fun. The Stockyards is an area with a perfect mixture of history and shopping. I would take my friend to shop for books at the huge Half Price Books bookstore, then we’d go eat at Riscky’s Steakhouse near the Fort Worth Stockyards. I would also love to take them thrifting at the many amazing thrift shops/vintage shops sprinkled within the Dallas area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank my Dad, John Pavsek, for being the true inspiration behind my brand. I am a Montana cowgirl because he taught me how to be one. I would also love to thank my husband, Jake, for supporting my dreams even when they seemed a bit crazy. I also have the best friends in the world – those girls have supported me through thick and thin.
