We had the good fortune of connecting with Quran Batiste, M.A. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quran, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to create a legacy for my family. I didn’t know what it was going to be at first. I just knew I had it had to be done.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I am so incredibly excited to get my ideas out into the physical. Okay, so I’ve been creative since I was a kid and expressed that in different ways. I’ve combined all of my hobbies and ideas into one creative outlet.

I’ve gotten to where I am with a lot of trial and error. I’ve initiated several types of businesses to see where my strengths lie. I honestly just started to get back into things that I used to like and things that I like to do now.

Batiste by Quran is my online boutique for lingerie and loungewear. But it’s also a reminder of who we are. It’s uplifting. Though everyone is welcomed and very much loved, Batiste by Quran caters to black women, specifically. Because we’re not catered to enough.

This process was and is NOT easy at all. There is so much that goes into building a business or a brand that you don’t think about when you get the idea to start. Family and friends that are actually supportive a 1,000% helped me overcome so many challenges. You can burn yourself out. You can do it alone, but it is so much more stressful and not as fun when you’re not surrounded by people with the same mindset.

Discipline is definitely number one. When I’m tired, it is usually a wrap. I can’t keep my eyes open at all. So, that helps me to keep up with tasks that need to be executed. I’ve also learned that I have to take my time with publishing. Your business probably won’t look exactly what you dreamed of, but you have to start and remember it’s okay to slow down and reevaluate.

I want the everyone to know that divination is in everyone. God is in everyone. That love is the highest vibration.

Women can still be sensual, sexy, stunning, and still connect with God– and our highest self. We should all feel good in who we are at our core, and Batiste by Quran is a consistent reminder of that. We forget who we really are because we’re so busy with life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m creole, so… crab legs me please! There’s this little hole in the wall in Richardson called Krab Kingz 7. OH MY…. bro. Best crab legs. I’m going to keep scouting for more. Most people who know me know that I eat a mostly vegan diet, so that will probably throw them off. But listen– lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

As crazy as this may sound– I want to thank myself for believing in me. I doubted myself for too long. I really want to thank my dad, he was really down for whatever when it came to me building this and he’s literally poured so much knowledge into me and still does. And of course, my friends! They continuously help with the hustle– whether it be small suggestions, pushing me into the spotlight, buying my clothes, or taking photos!

Anyone who has spoken life into me and genuinely cares and wants me to succeed, I have so much gratitude for you! Thank you so much.
