We had the good fortune of connecting with Quentan Mcguire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quentan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Pursuing a creative career allows me to amplify diverse stories from communities of color, enhancing representation and access for underserved audiences. This work is meaningful to me as it helps uplift and share the experiences of Black and Brown communities, ultimately contributing to a shift toward greater equity for these groups in society.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Daraja Agency is a Film & TV creative agency committed to empowering the next generation of diverse storytellers. We craft equitable, interactive, and immersive experiences, fostering a Creators Economy. Our focus is on representation, ownership, and community, enabling Creatives of Color to flourish while retaining ownership of their intellectual property.
Reaching this point in my career has required persistence, diligence, and countless hours of hard work studying my industry. It’s been an uphill journey, demanding sacrifice, vision, and a unique value proposition. I’ve overcome challenges through faith, mentorship, sponsorship, and the support of my community. I’m excited about upcoming projects, including Wade In The Water, a documentary exploring Black aquatic culture.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to keep failing forward—failure is a stepping stone to success. And most importantly, NEVER QUIT.
What the world should know about DARAJA is that we are THE BRIDGE, bringing premier stories of the Black and Brown experience to life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ever in Houston, Tx visit discovery green, The African American museum , Also, you can check out Lucille’s for a nice dinner
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shoutout to my tribe! First, to my Savior Jesus—without His divine guidance, none of this would be possible. I’m deeply grateful to Mr. West for his mentorship from high school all the way into my career. And a big thank you to Dr. Holly Carter for giving me my first job in the industry and continuing to support and mentor me throughout my journey.
