We had the good fortune of connecting with Pratibha Singh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pratibha, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe anyone’s success is entirely dependent on the person’s attitude. If someone has a great attitude even during difficult times they win. Its not necessary you will have everything you want in your life but what matters is you have everything that makes you happy and that is most important thing to have.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I arrived in the United States in 2014. It felt like I was going through an interview process. I got married, and my husband had already been living there, although not for a very long time. Back in India, I was quite independent and held a managerial position. However, upon coming here, the visa situation became a significant concern. At that time, I couldn’t believe I might not be able to work, as dependent visas (H-4) didn’t allow employment for spouses. My husband was supportive and suggested that we could always return if I didn’t like it. However, I had already left my job, and the prospect of finding employment again after returning was daunting. So, I decided to research my options. Unfortunately, there were no courses related to my field in the US at that time. Eventually, I enrolled in a program at UCSC Extension that allowed me to study on an F-1 visa, which also granted one year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) for work. Given my non-technical background, finding a job outside the tech industry was challenging, especially with visa restrictions. Many agencies offering H-1B sponsorship were not trustworthy.
I realized I had only one year to study and explore my options. During this time, the H-4 EAD rule was introduced, allowing spouses to work if their partner filed for a green card. Fortunately, we were eligible for this, and I could finally work legally. After this, I am able to work in top tech companies like Google, Amazon & Walmart. While working I came across Interviewkickstart, where I started taking behavioral interview sessions and became career coach on a part time basis. I am very fortunate to so far helped more than 10K+ candidates to land their dream job and fulfill their career aspirations.

Recently, I participated in Mydreamtv Mrs India2023 and won the title. I participated with 23 other women and emerge out as winner. Being a fashion enthusiast and fitness lover, I am very keen about healthy eating and thus started my youtube channel @foodmania09. I only make quick and easy recipes which are healthy and loved by all especially kids.

My lessons for this entire journey is go with the flow and opportunities will start floating 🙂

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend will be here, I will take them to San Francisco, Santa Cruz & Big sur. If they have time, we can plan a quick trip to LA & Vegas. LA is famous for their Hollywood and Universal Studios. I’m sure they will love food like Sushi & thai. I love few joints here like Dish N Dash and Hummus Mediterranean Cuisine. I will also take a quick trip around Napa valley for wine tasting and maybe do hot air ballon or mud bath.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am grateful and thankful to every rejection who lead me to a better opportunity and shaped me a better version of myself.
