We had the good fortune of connecting with Piper Byers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Piper, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being creative and artistic is the only way I’ve ever known how to deal with the world around me. To me, writing a song is the best coping mechanism in my life. There is something so special about turning anger or sadness or joy into a piece of work that other people can enjoy and relate to. I chose to pursue a music career because I want to continue to chase that feeling and moment for as long as I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an indie-pop singer/songwriter from Mckinney, Texas. I think what sets me apart from others in the music industry is my songwriting. I’m most proud of the way I convey stories and emotions through my lyrics. It has taken plenty of trial and error to get where I am now. I got into the entertainment industry at a young age so I have had plenty of experience with the different types of people and personalities in the industry. It can get very discouraging sometimes. There is a lot of rejection and it’s easy to feel like your work isn’t being appreciated or getting the recognition you want. But at the end of the day, I stay in it because I am in love with music and writing songs. As long as you have that love and passion for your work laying the foundation, then nothing else really matters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely adore the Bishop Arts area of Dallas. You can’t go wrong with any of the restaurants there but I personally have a soft spot for Enos Pizza. There are a lot of cute local shops and great people there. I also love Deep Ellum. I can’t wait to go back to a concert there when it’s safer!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my amazing producer Ben Barnett at The Hang Studios who has been a huge help in developing my sound and helping me find my niche in the industry. I would also like to shoutout my family and friends who show me continuous love and support. Lastly, I want to shoutout Taylor Swift, HAIM, and all the other amazing female artists who continue to inspire me and my songwriting.
