We had the good fortune of connecting with Payton Templeton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Payton, what makes you happy? Why?
My photography makes me beyond happy. I’ve never felt so sure about something in my whole life. I’ve been involved with it ever since I was young. I got my first camera at 13 and a “big” camera at 14, I found love for photography ever since then. Being able to express my feelings and art through a photograph is something so important to me. It’s drawn me to advance with this hobby to a potential career. Even though I’m just starting out, I’ve launched a photography business (www.Payton Templeton photography.com). It’s been a bit of a struggle during these hard times regarding the pandemic and growing my business, but that doesn’t stop my passion and love for what I do. Soon, I’ll be attending Sam Houston State University with a major in photography in fall of 2021. With loads of hard work and dedication I plan to continue this drive I have with photography in the future!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art can go many ways regarding the many aspects of photography. I’m so proud of myself for everything i’ve accomplished, especially in this past year. Creating a business isn’t easy, especially so young. But I’ve successfully grown a great name for myself. I would say a big step for wanting to start my business professionally would be doing photography through my school. I got to experience a lot in yearbook, I was taught most of what I know today in that class. For example, taking pictures for sports events, classes, clubs, teachers, portraits, school life etc. I began to realize how much potential I had behind a camera. When I first started my business I primarily did portrait photography, but I’ve advanced so much to taking pictures of weddings, couples, engagements, sports, maternity, products, landscapes, real life, music artists and editorials. My music artist and editorial photography is definitely something that is still in the works, but it really opens my mind to the greater possibilities I have with photography. It drives me to be more creative and value the art of photography the more I do it. I love how I can really show my artsy side and capture some really cool moments when I get to do that type of stuff. Something that I’ve definitely taken away from these experiences would be to never give up on the things I believe in for myself, and that I will work hard for the things I want to do in my life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big fan of museums, I recommend the 6th floor museum if you enjoy history! It’s very interesting if your a big history nerd like me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout would no doubt be to my boyfriend Ryder Lawhon. (@cynical_behavior on Instagram) Not only has he been a big support of my dreams, successes and accomplishments, but he has given me so much advice considering he himself is a cameraman too. His love for creating, directing and filming music videos motivates me to grow even more with my photography. He has been a big help these past couple of years!
