Meet Paulina Pineda | PMU Artist & Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paulina, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
I don’t even have to think about it, haha. Four and a half years ago, I left my country, my family, my friends, and my business, which took me many years and immense effort to build! I had a BEAUTIFUL studio, one of the most famous in my city, with a large clientele and several girls working with me. Leaving it all behind was undoubtedly the hardest decision, because arriving here in the USA meant starting from ZERO—no friends, no acquaintances, no family (just my husband and me), and no community. Was I terrified? OBVIOUSLY. Was it hard to decide to say goodbye to everything? OF COURSE. But sometimes, we have to make painful decisions that may not seem “right” to begin your own definition of success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey into PMU (permanent makeup) is a story of transformation and listening to my inner voice. Professionally, I am a medical doctor, but deep down, I always felt there was something missing. Despite a stable career, I wasn’t completely fulfilled. I took a leap of faith into the world of beauty after months of practicing eyebrow techniques on paper and latex, and as I started working on real clients, I realized I had found my true passion.
It all started by chance when I went in as a model for a microblading procedure. The moment I arrived, I fell in love with everything about it—seeing women with their kits, the excitement in the air, and the community of learning and support. I never thought I’d be good at it, as I didn’t consider myself artistic. But what I’ve learned is that you can achieve anything with dedication and practice, and I put in the hours to improve.
Transitioning from medicine to beauty wasn’t easy. Leaving a stable career was terrifying, but I knew deep down it was the right move. I believe that listening to that inner calling, even when it’s scary, is what ultimately led me here.
What excites me the most today is how much I love my work in PMU. The joy of seeing my clients leave happy and confident, and teaching others the craft, fills me with pride.
One of the key things that has contributed to my success is authenticity. On social media, I show myself exactly as I am. I make an effort to be transparent, share my face, and engage in conversations with my community. This has helped me connect on a deeper level with my audience, creating trust and a sense of familiarity. My authenticity has truly been a driving force behind the growth of my brand.
Ultimately, my story is about following your passion, being true to yourself, and taking risks to build something meaningful. I hope to inspire others to trust their own journey and know that success comes from being genuine.
