We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Frushour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by what I want for my kids and family. My kids are 9 and 4, I want them to see that you don’t always have to be an employee. If you have an idea that you believe in, take the risk and see what happens. I want them to see that an every day, normal person like me that has had a full time job for the last 16 years can indeed change his path and build something of his own. I am a long way from what I would consider successful, but the fact that I stepped off the ledge a year ago and said I am doing this to benefit those around me, that’s what drives me to work on the project that is Bearded Man Provisions until 1 or 2 in the morning most days.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bearded Man Provisions is a brand that adopts the concept of slowing down. The products we will always offer will take a classic approach, call it analog living in a digital world. The idea behind Bearded Man Provisions encourages taking the time to make a mug of tea, read a book, cooking a meal, talking to friends and family and buying a product once and having it last for years.

Doing great things takes time and patience, and isn’t comfortable. After reading the Cal Newport book, Slow Productivity, I realized in order to make my business successful, I need to excel at every step of the process, no matter how uncomfortable the task may be. This has greatly slowed down the growth I could have gained over the year I have been in business, but I tell you what, the quality of what I do have to offer, has no rival.

I am Bearded Man Provisions and Bearded Man Provisions is me. I stand behind every product I offer as I use them every day. Seeing total strangers that don’t know me enjoy the tea or the idea behind my brand reassures me every day that I am doing the right thing and I just need to keep pushing forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since moving to Texas in 2008, one thing I cannot get enough of is Texas BBQ. If I could eat this every day, I would without question.

I would take a week and we would go on a BBQ road trip tour of Texas. We would visit all of the top BBQ restaurants in Texas, learn their story and their approach to creating some of the best food the world has ever seen.

Just a few spots to hit-
Terry Blacks
Franklins
Snow’s

There would be considerable research that goes into this trip to really find the best places to go to in all of Texas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jessi Frushour, my wife- she is always pushing me to do more and listens to me talk on about tea way more than any sane person in this world.

Dustin Nichols- My friend who always has a “hell yeah bro” ready at any little glimmer of success I find.

Leo De La Fuente- He talked me through the step off into turning my idea into an actual business.
