We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Ray-Lipsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would like to be remembered as a giving and kind person. Early on I realized that I have always had a big heart and care about others. I think that it is always better to give than receive. Giving gives me much joy. Although I have been driven to better than my circumstances while growing up in very challenging situation. As a youth, adult and senior adult, It has is and has been important for me to be active in the community that I live.
I hope my legacy will consist of all the ways I tried to make things better. In my workplaces, church, family and community my approach every day is to be positive and send positive messages. God blessed me with many talents of loving people no matter who they are, sharing my knowledge, being compassionate and sharing my resources.
I am not a rich person in possessions, but I have lots to give in so many other ways. Being a leader no matter where I am is part of my legacy and always willing to put in the work.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My resume includes lots of positions of leadership in diverse business. I have been the HR/Chief Financial Officer which was very fulfilling in helping the success of many businesses. I also have owned and currently run my own business. My current business focus is the help small business succeed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Dallas and all that it has to offer. I love shopping. I would hang out with my best friend at North Park Mall which has so many nice shops and restaurants. Also, love our downtown area. Reunion Tower Ball to see all the city for sure is an awesome venue.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Patricia Ray-Lipsey’s journey is a testament to the power of faith in God, determination, and resilience. Born into challenging circumstances in small-town Texas, Patricia faced adversity from the very beginning. Her young mother struggled to provide for her growing family, and Patricia found herself shouldering the responsibility of raising her younger siblings while still excelling academically and in sports in school.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Patricia’s unwavering faith in God sustained her. She prayed for wisdom and resources to create a better life for herself and her family. Patricia was determined to change the trajectory of her life, to rise above her circumstances and make a difference.
One pivotal moment came when Patricia joined the Girl Scouts at the age of ten. Through this organization, she met Jenny Motheral, a white woman who became her mentor and guardian angel. The Motheral family sponsored Patricia in her Girl Scout endeavors, exposing her to new experiences and cultures. GS’s Wider Opportunities allowed her to travel many new places. At the age of 14, Patricia traveled to New York City and took her first plane ride. This newfound exposure ignited Patricia’s dreams of a brighter future beyond the confines of her small town.
High school graduation marked a turning point in Patricia’s life. She prayed and dreamt of going to college, an aspiration that seemed distant given her family’s financial struggles. Patricia’s mother’s habits often jeopardized her own ambitions, but Patricia’s determination remained unshaken. At the age of fifteen, she left her tumultuous home life and moved in with her Aunt Rosie and Uncle LeRoy Anderson, a loving couple who offered her a fresh start.
With their support and her unyielding faith, Patricia began to rise. She served on a student board of directors for a local bank and, through a combination of grants and scholarships, realized her dream of attending college became real. At Huston-Tillotson University, where she majored in Accounting and Business. Her professor, Mrs. Marshall, recognized Patricia’s potential and recommended her for a job at the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. Patricia was hired as an Intern Bank Examiner for 1 year term.
This marked the beginning of Patricia’s life in the big city, where she believed God had called her to be. Her journey was not without fear or challenges; she faced sexism and racism in corporate America, but Patricia’s faith in her abilities and her unshakeable belief that God had a purpose for her kept her resilient. She believed in herself and God’s promises.
Patricia’s story is a testament to the idea that God has a plan and does everything in His own time. Through hardship, turmoil, and tears, Patricia’s faith grew stronger. She learned that God could make a way out of no way and part the seas when it seemed impossible. Patricia’s journey reminds us that our worth is determined not by others but by our heavenly Father.
Now in her 60s, Patricia lives an active and vibrant life, serving her community and enriching the lives of others. She knows that her journey was part of God’s divine plan, and she continues to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for those who hear her story. In Patricia Ray-Lipsey’s life, we find a beautiful tapestry of faith, determination, and the unwavering belief that, with God, all things are possible.
