We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Entrepreneurship is like a roller coaster. There are many highs, gut twisting lows, and tons of twists and turns. Every time you overcome those lows and turns you will emerge with a new found strength. I say never give up because you do not want to wake up one day and regret the what if’s. You’ll never know how successful you can become unless you keep trying and keep striving. That desire to persevere will help you grow personally as well as your business. As a creative there are times when you post content that you’ve given your all and the masses may not vibe with it. The same can be said about starting a business where you sell goods or services. Negative consumer responses can be discouraging, and you can beat yourself up about it, but that wouldn’t be beneficial or profitable. Instead take the feedback and do better, come harder, think more outside the box. Failure is not final, just a reroute for a different path to success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my YouTube channel Ohh So Paige because I was just starting my natural hair journey as well as getting into wigs. It started as a beauty channel but now it’s more so a lifestyle/ beauty channel. I love getting on camera and being myself and my subscribers can relate and accept me for me. I didn’t expect it to become monetized, but that was a big milestone. YouTube has taught me many lessons. You have to have tough skin because the comments can get crazy and sometimes discouraging. But always remember the good comments outweigh the bad. Having a YouTube channel always seems easy on the outside looking in. But you have to be inspired to create and you also are showcasing your true vulnerable self to millions of people. Some may like you and your content and others may not.
As far as my press on nail business Ohh So Pressed. I created the press on shop last year due to Covid 19 and not being able to get my nails done. I started doing dip polish sets on myself by bedazzling them, doing ombré sets, and marble sets. I fell in love with the creative process and wanted to share Boss Nails with others. I make all of my press on sets by hand and self taught myself through YouTube University. I find so much joy in receiving pictures from customers rocking their sets that I put my all into. I just want them to love their nails and get that confidence that comes with having your nails done.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a hard question for me because I am more of a homebody most times and I’m still getting to know Dallas. I’m a huge movie buff so I would definitely have to take them to my favorite theater Moviehouse and Eatery to enjoy the recliner seats and the Lobster Tacos!! I love thrills so we would also have to hit up iFly for the skydiving experience. I would love to do the real thing one day but for now we can settle for the simulation at iFly. We would also have to stop by Turkey Leg Paradise for good food and possibly get on the mic for Karaoke. I can hit a few notes! And lastly I would have to take them downtown for the Sunday Funday experience. That’s a must!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a huge shoutout to my mother Evie Wallace for always being my support system. She has always been the voice of encouragement throughout my journey. If it wasn’t for her buying my YouTube equipment, I wouldn’t have started my channel. Every idea I bring to her she supports it and gives valuable input. Thank you Mom for sowing into me, my dreams, and my aspirations. I love you more than words could ever express.
