We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyx Mendoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyx, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At Modern Goddess we believe that magic can be found around us and within us. Inspired by Venus, the Goddess of Love we have taken those attributes of finding yourself and seeking empowerment to another level. From crystals used to help channeling energy during heart centered meditation to beauty products to help treat your divine body we believe that when we take the time nourish and heal our bodies in a metaphysical manner, we begin to see the grand design. Many times, we are often met at a crossroads and look to others as a way out, but I’ve come to learn when we reach our lowest point, we are open to the greatest of change. Crystal work as we know it dates back to ancient times, we have all heard of great myths of Goddesses fighting battles and overcoming adversity. And although those stories since then have been placed in museums and books, the wisdom they carry still can be applied today. My mission is to harness the energy of those elements and use them in a modern way to help teach others that through manifestation and taking that first step you are paving the way to better understanding your healing journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist we feel nothing and everything all at the same time. To me creativity takes courage, tracing your lifeworks back to the root of inspiration outlives any trend.
I believe in the saying art is not what you see, but what you make others see. For my business I have found when I imitated others and looked for an easy way out, I ended up finding myself back to square one. In those times of despair and giving up I found myself signing up for every possible art class I could find, trying to master every technique possible. It was during the semester in 2018 where I was met with discouragement of not being showcased in the student art show, what once was a promised dream in my small town has become a shattered distorted reality in the city. I have found during that time in my Yoga class that finding my center and calming the voices in my head have allowed me to process thoroughly the ideas I wish to execute. To make art stems from what bring joy in the moment and what feelings do you take out of it when it’s all over. My model for my brand the Modern Goddess traces back to understanding that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things, that in a greyscale world we can find color again.

I owe many thanks to my advisors and professors for allowing me to flourish and teaching me that late bloomers still bloom. Deep within all of us is the capability to unravel true potential, but in order to allow those moment of bliss to occur we need to learn the rules in order to break them. Art cannot be celebrated if it does not r derive from a place of hope. Flashforward to 2022 I am flourishing with ideas, being recognized in my community not only in my business with crystals and products but the art that ties in with my message of inner healing through divinity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends know I love everything artsy and aesthetic, so naturally its only Instagramable places are on the list. Dallas has many cute and picture worthy destination’s here is me to go itinerary,

Breakfast:
-San Martin
I love starting the morning with a beautiful scenery and with a place like San Martin I know everyone will come dressed for the occasion and will be wide awake for the moment. I love their breakfast and overall presentation; it gives immaculate vibes and main character energy.
In between activities:
-Dallas Museum of art for Photos
-Klyde Warren Park for some sun and Chit chat
Lunch: Eating at the Dallas Farmers Market and shopping through all the little stores inside is a good way for everyone to find something they like. My favorite to go to shop is Lone Chimney Mercantile their variety of stickers and cute items make it a great destination for anyone.

Dinner:

Gen Korean BBQ in Carrolton
This is my go-to spot for people who have never had Korean food, the experience overall is amazing you’ll find out here which one of your friends can cook and who can’t. This place never disappoints.

Dessert.

I know what you’re thinking, girl you just had so much to eat how can you find the space to eat more, well when you have tried Somi Somi in Carrolton you’ll see why even when I’m full ill make room for their ice cream, this cute area in Carrolton is full of

Night life.
S4 in Dallas has the best lineup of performers located in Oaklawn! if you’re lucky you’ll catch them while they’re performing Selena

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If you were to walk into a room and ask everyone what they associated me with they would all yell CRYSTALS. This experience has been an amazing ride and it can only get better from here. My journey as a small business owner started in college in 2016 as I began exploring into the metaphysical while tying in my artwork. in this time the idea to expand and create something outside of personal work was beyond my comprehension, it was during my time in Student Government and art classes that I made the connections that helped me emerge from my shell. I believe good people can help bring out the best in you, and in this case my college friends have given me the inspiration and strength to take the leap of faith and turning my life’s visions into reality.

I’d like to thank all the amazing event coordinators for always supporting me and allowing me to showcase my work and products while making it accessible to me and other vendors. I have met the kindest creatives in these spaces, we are one big family and our support to see each other succeed is what holds us together.
