We had the good fortune of connecting with Nuria Bonilla Handrop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nuria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started working within schools as a special education teacher I knew I had chosen the right career path and that I was truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of my students and their families. Even so, I noticed that each student needed fully personalized support, someone who taught them according to their needs, conditions, challenges, interests, progress rates, etc. And that it also adapts the curricular contents and materials to achieve meaningful learning.
I wanted to be that person, an ally of my students, their families, schools, teachers and other specialists. I wanted to form a team with them, to work together toward common goals and get our children forward. It was then that with the motivation of my family I decided to start Eco Kids Crea Descubre y Aprende, where I dedicate myself to supporting my students through personalized tutoring so that they can achieve their academic goals and comprehensive development.
Now I am dedicated to supporting neurodiverse and bilingual families in addition to students who want to learn or practice Spanish. I truly feel blessed to have the opportunity to enter the lives of such amazing human beings. They help me become a better teacher every day.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I personalize each class for my students whether working one on one or in very small groups. This level of personalization prioritizes their conditions and adapts to their needs. By having such personalized classes, I can have a very special connection with each of my students and their families, which is incredibly important to accompany them on this path of education, it truly makes a difference.
I have had to work on myself emotionally and physically to drive my business forward.
Investing in myself has played a crucial role, enabling me to give my best to those I cherish the most: my students, clients, and the ones who have faith in me and my work. Additionally, getting out of my comfort zone and embracing change has brought incredible and positive things to my business. Sometimes, you need experiences that shake your foundation in order to strengthen it.
Throughout the years of working with numerous families and their children, I have come to understand the significance of empathy, stepping into someone else’s shoes, and practicing self-patience. At Eco Kids Crea Descubre y Aprende, we strive to provide a secure and professional environment where we guide your children based on their individual pace of development, free from any pressures or judgments. Our approach is rooted in understanding, respect, patience, and love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question because I feel like I’ve already applied it several times with family and friends who have visited us.
In Fort Worth, we would definitely go for some cupcakes and coffee at Unrefined Bakery. A visit to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden would be a must, and for dining, we would go to Hard Eight and Velvet Tacos. For a fun night out, we love Billy Bob’s during a concert.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I thank God for guiding me on this journey. Then to my beautiful family, my husband Andrew who motivates me daily to achieve my dreams, to my beautiful baby Moneva who inspires me daily to be a better version of myself. And to Mexicanas en Dallas and its founder Yami Furlong for the incredible community she created.
