We had the good fortune of connecting with Nurgül Engin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nurgül, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
For example, my mother would ask me to buy something from the market, but as soon as I stepped out of the house, I would forget what she asked me to do and would wander off on my own. But when it came to my own wishes, my mind worked perfectly. From a very young age, I used to sew dresses for my dolls. Creativity is the most important skill for me that completes my own existence. I really enjoy creating things and I am always looking for new ways to experience this pleasure.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Like everyone else, I strive to create a world of my own, where I can convey my dreams and thoughts. I am the creator of a world with my own style, with my own touches. The name of this land is “moshi moshi”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would like to have dinner with my friends in Kuzguncuk (east side of Istanbul) at a restaurant overlooking the sea, eat yogurt in Kanlıca, take beach walks in Şile, visit all the antique shops in Cukur Cuma.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
With 3 children, I am the middle child of a mother who carries life on her own. For as long as I can remember, my mother has always worked, she was a very hard worker. She would get up at 4 in the morning, prepare our favorite meals, clean the house and then go to work so that her children would not be deprived of anything.

Her determination to do the same routine every day fascinated me. Despite all her work, my mother was my holy supporter with her dedication to her children and her wholehearted support in everything. When I was studying fine arts, the state and foundations did not give me scholarships, but I was able to cover my school expenses thanks to a scholarship given by a friend’s brother-in-law. Finally, my friends, my beloved husband and my son are the best supporters in my life.
