We had the good fortune of connecting with Noelly & Chris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noelly & Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Chris: I had the idea for Thirty Flirty and Trying back in 2021. I was in my late 20’s and had this moment of realization that my 30’s were going to be everything that society had told me my 20’s would be. I spent those years learning hard life lessons and I couldn’t wait to get to my 30’s to implement everything I learned and live my best life.

Noelly: Last year, we started doing weekly walks for our friendship and physical health. Chris had some serious health problems she was recovering from around the same time that I was recovering from giving birth to my son, so we decided to hold each other accountable and share time together. We’d walk for miles by the Trinity River, talk about our lives, current world events, and discuss how we were navigating through it all.

Chris: Over the holidays, I took some time to reflect on what I wanted out of life, my goals and dreams; that’s when Thirty Flirty and Trying came back to me. I was like “I’m already having these conversations with Noelly. She is one of my best friends, someone I know I can work with, and one of the most talented people I know. She would be the perfect partner for this project.”

Noelly: I was surprised when she asked me to do the podcast at first, because I’ve grown to be a kind of quiet person. But after discussing it, I recalled a memory I’d forgotten: when I was a little girl, I used to put on shows for my family with a friend. Thanks to some hard life experiences I’d lost my voice, but I knew healing in community would be so good for my soul.

Chris: Noelly and I both come from Latine households who value community pretty much above all else. I’d lost my community when I moved to this country, and neither of us had much luck in building one. We wanted to give us and others going through similar life experiences a safe place to find themselves again, to grow through every part of the healing journey, to laugh together as we learned. To find ourselves and our community through this podcast.

Noelly: And now we have that!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Noelly: I think what sets us apart is we’re willing to talk about the hard things while remaining hopeful and acknowledging that there’s always room for growth and goodness. It’s so easy to fall into the fallacy that everything is so black and white, doom and gloom, but what if there are gray areas and what if there is hope?

Chris: We definitely approach everything with a good sense of humor. These topics are necessary discussions, but life is hard enough already without having tough conversations in a depressing manner. So we tackle these topics like our other traumas: with killer jokes and tons of laughter.

Chris: Starting the podcast has been difficult. We’ve had a lot of growing pains; learning to cut and edit, learning to manage our time, finding our rhythm and voice. I genuinely think I would’ve quit this project already if I was doing it by myself.

Noelly: It hasn’t been easy but we give each other grace and room for error. I’m there to pick up the load when Chris needs it and vise-versa. It’s given us the safety we both needed, because we know we are a team and working towards the same goal.

Chris: There’s no fear that the other will lash out or not understand, because we give each other support unconditionally. We’re practically a married couple lol

Noelly: Our goal is to build community through telling our stories. So many of us are navigating similar struggles; there’s no need to be alone through this tough but beautiful journey we call life.

Chris: We grew up feeling so alone, and there’s absolutely no need for that! We’re here to heal our inner children by providing them with the support and love they should’ve had from the get go. There’s nothing better than finally feeling like you’re not alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Noelly: We’re both Fort Worth girlies! We love the local restaurants on Magnolia Avenue in Near Southside Fort Worth.

Chris: Gustos is my favorite spot there right now, their sliders and tots are to-die-for! You can also never go wrong with Salsa Limon. It’s owned by a Mexican immigrant family, the vibes are excellent, and the food is delicious. It’s a win-win-win.

Noelly: Or South Main, which is super close to Magnolia. Hopfusion has some great beer options, and the Bearded Lady is a Fort Worth Staple.

Chris: Their grilled cheese is everything, I’d also def recommend checking out the Bishop Arts/Oakcliff area in Dallas. If you want to get pampered, Yoali Studio is the best. I’ve been getting facials and brow laminations there for over a year and I cannot recommend them enough. The owners, Esti and Sofy, have the absolute best energy and have made a super welcoming environment. Grab some snacks at Olmo Market, and pick up some plants at Crecer! Olmo Market is a Mexican-American family-owned market that hosts the family’s chocolate shop inside, CocoAndre. The chocolate made by Chef Andrea is so decadent, you’ve never eaten chocolate like this in the USA. Crecer is a hair salon and plant shop owned by two Latinas; the vibes are incredible since you’re surrounded by so many plants! I get my hair done by Isabella, she’s the sweetest and insanely talented. Every time I get my hair done I get a little plant as a treat!

Noelly: Another awesome place to get pampered is LacquerBox Studio in Arlington. Christine found them like a year ago and has dragged all of her friends there; including me lol. She wasn’t wrong though, it was a totally different experience. They took their time, I was there for a couple of hours, but the attention to detail and level of service was worth it. Plus the owner, Champa, is so nice. They specialize in gel-x and doing intricate nail designs! Definitely not your mom’s nail salon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Noelly: My hubby, because doing a podcast with an attached toddler would be impossible lol. Seriously though, his support has definitely made this a reality.
Chris: Oh for sure shoutout to our husbands. Having a partner that allows you room for exploration and growth, who is willing to be there during the rough times is indispensable. But also shoutout to my therapist, cause lord knows I wouldn’t be doing anything without her.
Noelly: Shoutout to therapists for being superheroes, for real for real.
