We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina McGowan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, what do you attribute your success to?
Persistence is the most important factor to my success. When first starting on my photography journey, like most people, I took a lot of bad photos and my work was very inconsistent. There would be times when I would get into ruts comparing my work with other’s on social media. And while that alone can suck the joy out of creating, I decided that the only way to feel confident in my work and my ability as a photographer was to keep working at it and to use each bad photo as a learning experience instead of viewing it as a failure. Being persistent with working on my craft and not allowing missteps to deter me has been the largest factor in success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work has changed and evolved throughout the years. I started shooting more conceptual work then slowly I began shooting more families and couples. Now I Shoot mainly families. My style is bright, colorful and fun. I love being able to showcase the personalities of the people in front of my camera. The journey hasn’t necessarily been easy, as with learning anything new. Learning how to run a business, from taxes to marketing still has its challenges and I’m learning as I go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m quite an outdoorsy person so my favorite pls es would be kayaking on lake Lewisville, little elm sandy beach and the Dallas arboretum. My favorite place to eat is Sayika steakhouse, it’s my favorite Japanese steakhouse.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters of me pursuing my dreams and building my business. While they knew nothing about running a business and the thought of me embarking on this journey scares them, they’ve alway been there for me.

Currently my favorite book has been “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill
