We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Kovach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, how does your business help the community?
Working as freelance artists, we noticed a gap in the beauty industry. In our personal experience, diversity and others with an unorthodox style are not often represented in the bridal community. Beyond us providing hair and makeup for traditional weddings & events that we love working, we also want to focus on serving the same luxury on-location hair and makeup experience to people in our community who are afflicted by the lack of variety; judgement free. Our goal is to bridge this gap in the wedding industry by providing confidence, inclusivity, and representation to all – especially to the people who feel overlooked in our society. We are two unconventional girls with very different backgrounds, and we both live untraditional lifestyles. Because of that, we have a greater scope of the beauty we create when we come together. Our greatest passion is representing brides that have an alternative or progressive wedding approach and clients with offbeat special event looks! We believe in staying true to who you are and our hope is that this will begin to break the beauty barriers in our society.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

When I met Maria Medina (Celebrity Makeup Artist & Co-Owner ServLooks), I knew she was the missing piece of the puzzle to start ServLooks. We both value artistry, inclusivity, professionalism, and prioritize the health and safety of our clients. It just clicked for us to collaborate and start our business by uniting our expertise & passion for hair and makeup. By doing so, we are able to offer our clients an exceptional hairstyling and makeup experience.

We are two unconventional girls that come from very different backgrounds, and both live untraditional lifestyles. The challenges and adversities we have faced only continue to fuel the creative component behind our work. Because of this we have a greater scope of the looks we create with hairstyling and makeup application. While we love creating natural everyday looks on our clients, we are obsessed with representing brides that have an alternative or progressive wedding approach! Any client that has an offbeat special event look in mind is the highlight of our day. The on-location hairstyling and makeup experience we provide to our clients, our values of inclusivity and non judgment, and both being a lil quirky and unique while still being adaptable, is something special that helps sets us apart.

Reflecting on everything I have done in my career the past decade has lead up to where I am at today with ServLooks. Of course there have been challenges. Ups and downs, moments of self-doubt, really amazing highs, really low lows, and everything in between. A valuable lesson I have learned so far is that nothing is static. People change, ideas change, you change. Along with that change and to overcome the challenges, you have to adapt and persevere through the good and the bad. Remember that the challenges may be tough sometimes, and that will change too. Be open to change. There is something powerful about having a combination of passion, motivation, and openness. There can be tremendous growth opportunity if you can be open to change or rework an idea/concept.

We are just getting started!! We are beyond excited for the opportunities coming our way and for our continued growth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The highlight of a week long trip in Dallas would be showing my bestie all of my fav restaurants! I like a mix of fancy and lowkey, so it would depend what the day was like. The Mexican is a current fav, and my all time favorite for sushi and sake is still Uchi. We would definitely need to check out Wonder Bar and the Sugar Factory. Going out for the night would begin at Niwa for dinner in Deep Ellum. After that it is super easy to hit the bars in the area. I like starting the night there with drinks at Will Call and then pop over to Select Start – they have arcade games and the atmosphere is def something to experience!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone I have crossed paths with along my journey are all notable here and deserve credit because every experience, and any support I have had over the years has helped pave the way to my continued personal growth and success. There are too many names to list. Anyone that reads this that knows me, should know they all have personally made an imprint in my life. <3
