We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Amadi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process was WHY NOT BET ON ME? WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE? If anything you learn about yourself. How you interact with people and interact with yourself. When you work for you YOU make the executive decision even when you dont want to or you just have to. When i started I used my Income tax return and said LETS GOOOOO! Made a list of things that i needed to start. Got active in working out and I went hiking with a friend. A lady saw my jacket with a logo on it that said Lashes ( HAD ZERO CLIENTS) and she said you do lashes? I said ŸES I DO. She booked an appointment her boyfriend booked a body wax and been booking appointments ever since. I was so elated because someone asked. I was in a salon suite so i had walk-ins, different ones found me on groupon and on Instagram. Just kept going and learning and still learning.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Purple Me Pink Personal Spa Services. I show excellent customer service. I am most proud of myself and how much further I would like to go in the process. I have clients that actually come from other states to get a service. I learned to pivot in certain areas and what services I would like to do and not do. Being Consistent pays off and never being afraid to learn something new and trying it. There is more to come from Purple Me Pink. As long i keep God in my life and putting a plan in to action. Nothing can stop me from being better than i was yesterday.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Im not originally from Dallas, Tx. Im from the Bronx, Ny. Although there are some great places here nothing beats going home. In Dallas I would take them to Vidorra in Deep Ellum. One of my favorite latin restaurants. Ida Claire is a great restaurant in Addison. The brand new Black Owned vegan restaurant also in Deep Ellum Slutty Vegan. Sometime last year I actually went home to the city and brought my friend my Kayla (founder of DBB) with me and we walked the Brooklyn Bridge, went the Famous JUNIORS Cheesecake and went to Slutty Vegan in Brooklyn. Visited Lincoln Center and saw a Ballet Score that was Choreographed by Solange Knowles. It was absolutely Ah-Mazing. Then went to Ricardoś Steakhouse in Harlem and went to DUMBO. Dallas has some great attractions but nothing beats the Big Apple.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister was a big help when i got started and i thank you tremendously. I appreciate my classmates I went to esthetic school with. Tiara Calhoun-Smith of Sugar Suite Lounge. She was extremely helpful. Also she was the first person i ever rented a booth from at SSL. Shout out to Kayla McDowell of DBB (Dallas Black Bloggers) for promos at her events and networking events that we attend. Shoutout to my dedicated clients. THANK YOU A BUNCHES.
