We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Nandrasy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
In business and in life, I try to do all things with kindness. I believe everyone and everything can benefit from a little bit of empathy. In my graphic design business, I try to build genuine relationships with my clients. I believe that the more comfortable someone is with me and vice versa, the better the outcome of our project. I always try to stay present and dig deeper with clients to make sure that they feel seen and heard. Genuinely listening to someone can help you gain so much insight into who they are as a person, as well as, how to help them with their business goals. Kindness doesn’t have to be a big grand gesture. It’s simply being considerate and trying to make someone feel special. I also believe in extending kindness through small actions to make the world a better place. It can be as small as smiling at a person experiencing homelessness or picking up trash on your walk. I believe these small acts of kindness create a ripple effect, not only for the person receiving the kind action but for ourselves.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started NikNan Design a little over a year ago after working for Brinker International, the parent company of Chili’s Grill & Bar and Maggiano’s Little Italy, for 7 years. While at Brinker, I was fortunate enough to use design to help communicate and enhance the employee experience for team members. Over the years that I worked at Brinker, I developed a desire to help other companies that strive to balance people and profits. I believed that design can be a powerful storytelling tool that can educate, inspire and lead to action. This led me to create NikNan Design, a values-based graphic design studio helping brands make a greater impact. The studio is founded on the belief that good design has the power to communicate ideas and spark transformation. We work with brands to create brand identities, including full brand packages, branded environments, marketing materials and presentation support, including pitch decks.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I feel very fortunate that I live in Downtown Dallas. It’s located near so many fun areas like Deep Ellum, the Farmers Market and Bishop Arts. If I had a friend come to visit we’d definitely have to visit the Farmers Market on Saturday/Sunday to grab a cup of coffee from Palmieri Italian Cafe, buy produce and honey from the local farmers and walk through all of the beautiful plants at Ruibal’s. I’m walking distance from Deep Ellum as well, so we’d spend some time over there checking out the Crossroads resale shop, eating at Ichigoh Ramen Lounge and Pepe’s & Mito’s Mexican Food. Last, but not least, no trip to visit me would be complete without a trip to Oishii! I’ve had A LOT of sushi in my life and I can confidently say that Oishii is up there at the top for the best sushi and amazing service.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my friend, mentor, and client, Dom Perry. Throughout the years that I have known Dom he has been an advocate for so many, including myself. He has always supported my dreams and aspirations throughout our time working together at the same company and then became my first client when I opened NikNan Design. His combination of kindness, leadership and support make him such a special person that I’m so glad to know.
