We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikita Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikita, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
What’s the end goal, the question being posed as I stare down the barrel of my up and coming educational consulting brand The Cultured Education Company. We are branded behind the idea of providing culturally relevant personalized learning opportunities for our clients. Our mission statement highlights a key focus of our services, to assist in closing educational gaps and building strong academic minds. Cultured Tutoring is when life and learning collide. So the end goal is simple. Put as many culturally relevant, personalized learning tools, techniques and technology in the hands of primary teachers, and homeschooling parents everywhere. By the end of my career I want to have imprinted myself in the fabric of American Public School Education, and be the first African American Educational Technology giant. I want a spot in silicon valley and schools all over the country.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a 2nd grade primary school teacher with a Masters in Education who has embarked on a entrepreneurial journey in the world of education. Working in the classroom directly after the pandemic I was able to notice distinct gaps that children won’t be able to close during a regular school year and will require additional more personalized attention. Understanding the components needed to personalize learning and make learning authentic and culturally relevant creates a unique formula that is used within our tutoring services. I never would have thought I would be an educator nor a private provider of education services as I started a creative career in event planning initially. One day I woke up and felt that my creativity should be used for a greater good for a bigger purpose and I was lead to education. My life good or bad was a needed journey to get to this point today. Every personal and professional experience thus far has been a useful resource in my current professional journey. I want the world to know my brand and story represent faith, change, hope, resilience and authenticity and The Cultured Education Company plans to bring more educational equality into classrooms everywhere.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As an implant to the city I have definitely been able to find my way to some very cool places around town. Some of my favorite places and things to do will typically revolve around food, drinks and dancing. As a self proclaimed foodie, let me start with some of my favorite breakfast brunch spots, locally in my neighborhood. There are two really great mom and pop spots i frequent, one is called Southern Eats and the other is called The Porch. Between chicken and waffles or just good savory soul food breakfast I swear by these two places. However, lunch, let me count the ways I can eat lunch. Eating is surely a hobby so between just a good drive thru burger from Burger Street, or BBQ Ribs from TJ’s Fish and Chicken or late night 24 hour tacos from Taqueria Taxco those are just some of my favorite Arlington eats. However some other dining experiences I have enjoyed throughout the city came from, Kitchen + Kocktails, Perry’s Steakhouse, XOXO, Drakes, Nick & Sams, Maple Leaf Diner , Itza Taco and Common Table to name a few. Afternoons in Klyde Warren Park, or the Dallas Art Museum or even a day in Deep Ellum are always a fun time. Lava Cantina and the Ferris Wheel out at Grandscape on Sunday, maybe even a b.y.ob boat trip out at Rockwall can all set the tone for a great time around the city. Warm nights downtown at the AT&T park are always filled with fun and games, lights and music that are good for the soul.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a spiritual woman who resides in faith I have to always recognize what God has done for me throughout my journey. I recognize not all people have the same connections with the universe and may not understand my response. However, prayer and faith have been the ultimate support, love, mentorship and encouragement I’ve needed to embark on my new entrepreneurial journey in the world of education. God deserves all the credit, praise and recognition for where I am right now. Every silent moment I thought I couldn’t, I cried, I internalized discouragement and just wanted to give up he sent me confirmation that I was doing exactly what he needed and wanted me to do. Those personal moments gave me all of what I needed to make it to this point and continue on. God fills me with a spirit of peace and resilience that makes me feel and know I am unstoppable under his guidance and direction.
