We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Merola and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to have total freedom control when it came to creating hair. Often times, working under a salon owner you’ll have their visions and ideals projected onto you. I also feel time is wealth and I wanted control over my time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There were a lot of self imposed difficulties early on in my career. About 5 years ago I decided to get sober and everything started to turn in the right direction. I am extremely proud of the work I’ve created for editorial, and television alike, but even more so the ways my career has helped me give back. Providing haircuts to homeless women trying to integrate back into society through the 24 Hour club, or mentoring young hairstylists starting their career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anytime I have friends or family come to town a dinner at Georgie’s is a MUST. It’s my favorite restaurant in Dallas. I love a good shopping experience in Highland Park Village and really love lunch at Honor Bar. I have a big interest in art so DMA or the Japanese Maple Gardens in Fort Worth!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My hair story really began with my Aunt Jerri, she was a hairstylist and my favorite childhood memories were hanging with her at the salon. I also have to thank my friend Danielle for really pushing me to start hair school at the Aveda institute and my very good friend Morgan Hale for endorsing and praising my brand on her platform.
