We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Khan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Biggest risk is not taking one. This may be clechic but also true to its core. “Men of Action are favored by the Goddess of Good Luck” and all actions comes with some risks.
If you want to be in a Business learn to take risk and take them often. You may make mistakes first, but you’ll get better over time. It’s a muscle you need to exercise!
Once you’ve mastered that, the only other things that will keep you from being successful is DESIRE and CONSISTANT and PERSISTANT Actions.
Important Factors for Path to Success :
• Make Decisions, take chances/Risks, make yourself uncomfortable
• Uncomfortable isn’t a choice: train hard, so you can fall on it when needed.
. Can do attitude (ask not if it cannot be done , ask how can it be done)
o Visualize your dreams
Most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on my children.
Secret sauce: mentorship, learn from the people in that field
• Compound your results, then build on it, 1 % better every day, learn every day, in small steps
As with Life and same with business and success; we always say, “I wish I knew what I know now!”
So I’m teaching my kids what I didn’t know. How to manage Time, Money, Focus. Everytime we are on a long drive or walking in a park or really anytime at all, I’m trying to instill life lessons into them. Really, Hoping some of it will stick.
You cannot underestimate value of a Mentor/coach. If you are lucky, get one as soon as in your journey as possible. You will cut the time from learning to real world in half if not more.
And Avoid all the beginners mistakes giving you the most precious thing: TIME!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Just to give you an intro.
• I’ve been an entrepreneur for about 8 years. By Education I’m a Computer Science Engineer with Minor in Aerospace and Electrical Engineering and Math. Yes, 3 Minors.
I started my Software Consulting Firm Post days ok Y2K. On it’s success, sold it to my partner and became a W2 person.
• Currently in Real Estate business doing multiple things. My goal is to help and while doing to build a trustworthy brand. I do Fix-Flips, RE-Sale, New Builds , you name it.

Also, I’m a pilot. Aviation is Passion turned into a service based business.

o I do provide instructions to become a pilot and have written books/guides on the subject.
o Part of Aerobatics team.
o Work with Civil Air and USAF as a pilot.
o In process of Writing a book about achieving your Goal with Aviation as a focal point.
I opened an aviation teaching company where I departed from the boring and monotonic world of old teachers and made teaching fun. Thinking and talking about aviation makes me giddy, and I intended to convey my feelings about aviation to students in my aviation teaching company.
Let’s tackle the obvious. It’s NEVER easy. This should be taken as a sound advice. If someone tells you “it’s easy”; RUN! Preferably run away from them. There are lots of folks selling snake oil .
When I decided to teach aviation and be part of Teaching kids about Aerospace it was pure out of passion for the field.
In fact, the best thing is to prepare for it before it happens. Preparing yourself mentally for life’s setbacks and challenges would influence your reaction to them, help you with diverse coping strategies, and also help you move forward from it when it happens.
Therefore, know that failure, obstacles, challenges are normal, and they are bound to happen on your way to achieving your goal. The outcome, however, is what you make of it.
BE POSITIVE
Developing a positive mindset would get you through any challenge you may encounter while pursuing your goals. Looking at your challenges in the face and believing you will overcome them is the first, critical step to overcoming your challenges. If you believe you won’t overcome them, and if you think your setbacks or the roadblocks represent the end, then, would be. This is why it is important for you to develop a positive mindset towards any challenge you encounter in the pursuit of your goal.
DEVELOP NEW STRATEGIES
When you encounter challenges, think of new ways to solve them, rather than giving up on your goals or changing your goals. If you mapped out a plan, initially, go back to the mapped out plan and make new, effective changes. Think of ways to get out of the situation you are in, and infuse these ways into your plan. However, ensure that your new plan is aligned with your goals and is focused on achieving the same goal. Backing out of your goal because of challenges might lead to future regrets. Also, changing your goal doesn’t mean you won’t encounter challenges in the new one. Like I mentioned earlier, roadblocks, challenges, and setbacks are inevitable on the road to success. The best is to face the unexpected turns, the uncertainties, setbacks, and roadblocks heads-on.
YOU WILL FALL MANY TIMES, BUT DON’T STOP TRYING TO FLY IN any field you are.
PERSISTENCE
Persistence is your ability to keep pursuing your goals despite oppositions, obstacles, hurdles, and challenges you meet on the way. Success can’t be attained without persistence because it is your ability to persist that will enable you to keep pursuing your goals despite the challenges that come your way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
DFW has so much to offer which makes experiencing different foods, culture , events much easy. Being a pilot has it’s perks. I usually take my friends flying give them view from the top; VIP views.
You can do that even if you’re not a pilot and get a sunset dinner flight at Aviator Air in Grand Prairie.
Some of my favorites spots to eat are Zen Sushi Southlake, Express Kabab, afghani restaurant and get their Bolani, Great steak at NusRet in Dallas, Gus Famous chicken Fort Worth, Velvet Taco and so many others.
Good places to hang, ofcourse stock yard, Fort Worth Water Garden, Dallas AT&T studios, Perot Museum, if DaBoys are playing go to the AT&T Stadium. Legacy West is a popular spot as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can probably write a book on this. Oh Wait! I am. Of course, it takes a lot from the person to be successful. But We all need two secret ingredients,
1. Coach / Mentor
2. “WhoLuck” – from “Beyond Entrepreneur by Jim Collins
That special some one who either taught you how to climb the ladder or stood their holding it so you can climb it.
For me In Aviation, it has to be My flight instructor Joe Kalberer and USAF retired Commander Jeff “Bogie”. It was Fate! I ran in to him while searching for flight schools.
One enabled me to fly, and the other kept my fire alive to fly inverted.
When I was pondering to become a Real Estate investor. I took a lot of courses, attended every seminar I could. But the real success came when I asked my TCU Cohort Pete to be my coach.
With out them, All of my Business and Passion endeavors would’ve met their fair share of challenges and set backs.
