We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Bounphisai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nathan, what do you attribute your success to?
Consistency is everything! We don’t have any crazy secret recipe or extreme method we use to do things. What I love about our concept is that it’s simple yet complex at the same time. We let the quality and hard work speak for itself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My graphics and style is always changing, so people are always looking forward to what concept/product I make next! There is no specific reason as to why it does, I just truly love creating new things every single day of my life. My mind is always constantly asking “what crazy idea should I try next?”.

I am most proud of creating my brand from nothing and seeing the impact it has on the community. In my eyes, branding and presentation is the most important aspect of business. For years I’ve studied and self-taught myself in the field of graphic design and even got to work with some amazing companies/clients.

Every now and then, I go into a creative slump where my creativity isn’t at an all-time high. This roller coaster of being up and down is definitely the hardest challenge I face. Even though I’m kind of a workaholic, the best way I overcome these challenges is by stepping back and taking a break. I’ve learned that if I try to force something, it does not work out the best way.

I would love the world to know that our brand is purely based off of the ideal of “you can do anything you put your mind to”. I don’t have any culinary background at all! Everything I’ve learned was through pure perseverance and willpower to try new things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great pop-up events every single weekend here! We would check a lot of small businesses off the list. My favorite pastime is eating out.

I always have to take people to 7Leaves to get my favorite coffee! They offer specialty coffees and teas. What I love so much about 7Leaves is how well they source their ingredients.

Ricky’s hot chicken and Mike’s chicken are amazing go-to spots for me. For dessert, Aqua S in victory park never fails! Then afterwards, the trinity skyline trail is not far if you want to see the best view of downtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without my closest friends and family members, inu-san would not be anything like how it is today. There have been many times where it was all hands on deck when order volumes were at all-time highs. Many people think that we are a huge team of onigiri makers and creators, but it’s really started with just me with 1-2 helpers at a time. For the longest time inu-san was carried by the people closest to me and I can’t ever repay them enough for inu-san’s growth!
