We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working at a firm for 5 years. Towards the end of my five years, I was working 12 hour days, I was skipping my dr appointments due to my workload, and I wasn’t prioritizing myself. My boyfriend at the time (now husband) asked me why was I working so hard with such long hours to achieve someone else’s dream. I had never thought of it like that before. It really got me thinking about starting my own firm.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have two immigration law offices. I am proud to be fluent in both Spanish and English, and provide a comfortable and safe experience for my clients. I am first generation Mexican American, and I treat my clients how I would hope others would treat my own family members going thru the process. I have learned that immigration law is one of the toughest fields I have worked in. In immigration law, you can have changes from one day to the next, depending on the administration. There is no consistency. It can really wreak havoc on one’s emotions when you get excited about being able to help a client, only to find out the laws changed from last week and they no longer qualify-and you now have to deliver the bad news.
It’s important to realize these changes are out of your control, but you can deliver bad news in a caring and understanding manner, and let the clients know that you will continue to fight for them and see how else you can help them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start at Don Goyo’s panaderia to pick up pan dulce, Mexican sweet bread.
Then head over to Ascension Coffee for a lavender latte.
Make our way to the Stockyards because you can’t visit Fort Worth without visiting the Stockyards.
Roam around Hotel Drover to admire the scenery.
Watch a drive thru movie at Coyote Drive in.
And finally, visit the Best of Mexico celebration at the Fort Worth Stock Show.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my rock from day one. If it were not for him, I would have never seriously considered opening my own firm. I come from a family of immigrants. We are all loyal, hard workers, but not necessarily entrepreneurs. No one in my family has their own business. My husband is the one who planted that seed of entrepreneurship in my mind. I also have to thank my colleagues Belinda and Carrie, who instead of viewing me as their competition, took me in and shared their wealth of knowledge.
