We had the good fortune of connecting with Mz. Bossy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mz. Bossy, what is the most important factor behind your success?

Confidence, inspiration, and ambition are the most important factors behind my success. When I started my brand, it was an outlet for me. It was cathartic, an escape from reality. Mz. Bossy is an alternate reality for me to be everything that Sara is not. I have to maintain that confidence when I am on the mic, because it inspires so many women who use my music for their own release. I’d say 75% of my listeners are women who relate to a similar journey and they fuel my desire to make music by reaching out to me and telling me I inspire them.

I also do a lot of plus-sized modeling and in that confidence is key too. It’s important for women to be able to embrace their bodies and love themselves without those mainstream standards of beauty — which is all bullshit anyway.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a fiery, red-head rapper from Alaska in the DF-dub, I am proud of the fact that my message reaches the hearts and minds of my strong female listeners around the world. I have received some really cool accolades from the Alaska Hip-Hop and R&B Awards including: Best Female Rapper (2x), Best Radio Personality with DJ Allie, and Best Out of State Representative Artist.

When I first moved to Texas, I realized that I had a financial uphill battle because music is really expensive. In Alaska, so many people showed me love it was easily affordable and a huge blessing. Luckily, I met Keldrick from Gitmo Music and I was able to get back to it. I am about to release my fourth album. Even though I have had to take breaks for family and mental health, I have always had some good people in my corner to keep me going.

I have learned to keep pushing through the hard times. Life happens to everyone — not just me. It’s easy to get discouraged, but you have to trust the process. Stop repeating the patterns and break the cycles that hold me back. Not everyone is going to like me, my music, or my brand but at the end of the day, do I like me? Hell yeah. I love me.

I just want everybody to live their best life and that is what most of my music is about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would them to the Chairy Orchard to take pics. We’ll have a tea party and drink from little, fancy cups with our pinkies up. High heels and thick thighs. Oh my! And the charcuterie board would be to die for.

Then I would take them to the square in Denton and let them see the history of our small city, get some snow cones, a flight at 940 Kitchen, some Baja Blastitos from Eastside, and a CBD Cocktail from Miss Angeline’s. To nurse our hangover the next day, we’ll have lunch at Boca 31. We’d probably round out the visit with a punk or hip-hop show at Rubber Gloves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Gitmo Music, Sessions Production Studio, KyMani (my son), the ALASKA music scene, Lokal 907, all the artists that have given me advice and support, my family, my sisters. and everyone past, present, and future
