Meet Muhammad Murtaza, Abdulwahab Kazi | Muhammad Murtaza | Co-Founder of The Bean Guys Co & Abdulwahab Kazi|Co-Founder of The Bean Guys Co.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Muhammad Murtaza, Abdulwahab Kazi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Muhammad Murtaza, Abdulwahab Kazi, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for our business was born out of a deep passion for community, quality coffee, and a drive to innovate. We started by serving coffee right in the hallways of our commons—a modest beginning that quickly blossomed into something much bigger. Initially, we welcomed just 20 people, but by the third month, we were serving 80–100 coffee enthusiasts from nearby commons, all eager to try our brew.
Our product was a massive success. Why? Because we ensured our coffee makes you feel good after drinking. Using natural holistic ingredients; specialty coffee that uses no checmicals in the roasting process and using high quality ingredients in our syrups we craft right in house. We use ingredients sourced from where we know they taste the best, and never use any artificial preservatives in any syrups we make.
Inspired by the hustle culture our families instilled in us while we were still students, we took our passion a step further by designing and building our very own coffee cart. This mobile venture allowed us to extend our reach and serve the greater Dallas community, transforming our humble coffee service into a vibrant, community-driven business—one meticulously crafted cup at a time.
In our journey, we also recognized a significant gap in the market: the waste generated by used coffee grinds. Instead of letting this valuable resource go to waste, we saw an opportunity to revolutionize sustainability. Our plan is to transform coffee grind wastage into a thriving supply chain, repurposing it into everyday products such as cosmetics, fertilizers, and even biofuel. By doing so, we’re not only serving great coffee but also contributing to a more sustainable future for our community and beyond.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Bean Guys started with purpose and a deep commitment to serving the best possible product to our customers. That means every part of what we offer goes through a careful and meticulous selection process—from our coffee and ingredients to the flavors we create.
Let’s start with the flavors. We’re both passionate travelers and even more passionate coffee drinkers. So, wherever we go, we try the local coffee. We’ve tasted it on the beaches of Cabo, in the vibrant streets of Istanbul, and among the stunning landscapes of Saudi Arabia. Our love for coffee crosses borders, and we wanted to bring those global experiences back home. That’s why we handcraft our syrups and flavor blends to capture the essence of these places, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Yes, every syrup and flavor is made by us. We taste every batch to make sure it meets our standards for flavor and quality, using only the highest-quality organic ingredients. As for our beans, they’re roasted in small batches by local specialty roasters who take pride in their craft and focus on detail.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As students, the only thing we hit harder than books are the local coffee shops here in Dallas. The Dallas coffee scene is constantly growing and we’ve definitely had some faves here that we have also taken great inspiration from and we greatly admire as they, like us, believe and serve absolute quality.
The homebase, buzz and bustle, one of our oldest and most frequented spots, with absolutely amazing coffee, rockstars as baristas, and pastries that you will not find anywhere else in Dallas.
Another shop that loves to chase down the pinnacle of caffeinated excellence is Pax and Beneficia in Plano. We find their flavor combinations and syrups inspiring and they have been cranking out mind altering combinations for a while. Also can’t beat the friendliness and vibe of their staff.
Lastly on our caffeine tour, down near lower greenville, Cafe Duro. The ultimate place for straight vibes and feeling like you’ve been transported from Dallas to a small European street cafe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Bean Guys was started by two coffee enthusiasts, but we’re far from the only ones behind the brand. It all began at home. As co-founders, we both come from entrepreneurial families, where small business was the norm and hustle was in our DNA. With the support, mentorship, and encouragement of our parents and relatives, we found the confidence to bootstrap something entirely our own.
We’re not just founders—we’re students too. And we wouldn’t be where we are without the community that’s lifted us up. Friends, family, schools, and local organizations gave us our first shot, literally and figuratively. They gave us space to test our products, refine our methods, and grow our brand. The result? The Bean Guys is more than a business, it’s a reflection of the culture and community that helped build it.
