We had the good fortune of connecting with Moses Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moses, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I found myself at a crossroad because I was working in video production at a corporate job but I also had a ton of freelance work starting to pile up. I had envisioned starting my own video production company for a long time, but didn’t quite have the client base I needed. The timing finally seemed right to take that leap of faith, and I haven’t looked back since.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like some of the best art comes from a place of pain. When I used to write music, my best songs always stemmed from a place of hurt. I feel like filmmaking is still that way for me, and the things I’m most proud of usually come from that same place. It doesn’t always have to be dramatic either, even when I’m working on something comedic, it’s usually a way for me to work out something painful, albeit in a funny way. So, although I really enjoy helping brands and people bring their visions to life, my favorite projects are usually the stuff I don’t get paid to do, like short films. My favorite project so far was a mini documentary I shot with Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red. ABR has always been one of my favorite bands, and getting to work with them in such an intimate way was a dream come true. My first short film, Sinner Victim Saint is also up there with work I’m most proud of.

For me, the road has been anything but smooth. It took me years to find what I wanted to do with my life, and in many ways, I’m still trying to figure it out. Even after I found my path, I still struggled to find the right work environment – and whether it was working for a small company or large, I still always felt out of place. I ultimately discovered that the best environment for me is being my own boss and controlling my own destiny. But regardless of my struggles, I’ve always found the most success when I decide to embrace my natural gifts and talents instead of pushing against them. That’s the best advice I can give. Follow your passions and the rest will take care of itself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While I live in Austin, I do occasionally get up to the DFW area and I love my time there. I would start with catching a Rangers game, then drinks in Deep Ellum, then a historical visit to the Grassy Knoll. I also really enjoy thrill rides, so a day at Six Flags is always a treat!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to Sam Manavis of Manavision in Dayton, OH and Craig Parks of Parks Communication in Austin, TX. These two fine gentleman have been instrumental in both my career as a filmmaker, as well as in my development as a human being. Without their mentorship, encouragement and generosity, I would not be where I am today.
