We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Rowell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Hi! I am Morgan, Owner and Photographer of Simply Mo Photography. I am 28 years old, engaged to my favorite person on earth, and we have two Golden retrievers named Mia and Max. I have always had a camera in my hand since I was a child. I have loved taking photographs for as long as I can remember. In 2015, I purchased my first DSLR canon camera to start pursuing photography for personal use and as a hobby. While wrapping up my bachelors of science degree in Radiation Therapy at Texas State University in 2017, in my free time between class and work I took my camera everywhere! From portraits of my Golden retriever pup Mia, to portraits of my boyfriend (now Fiance) Ryan, even a classmates graduation photos. Fast forward a few years later in 2019 and I started pursuing portraits of friends and family members on the weekends and that is when I decided to turn my hobby into a passionate second career. Officially opened up Simply Mo Photography in 2019 taking portraits of mostly kids, families, my two gold retrievers, and some headshots for professionals. Now in 2022, and a few upgrades later, I now specialize in Portraits, Families, and small intimate weddings.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love to capture weddings, families, and portraits as vividly and natural as clients remember it, to bring a timeless yet modern look. I believe in becoming not only a clients photographer, but becoming a friend to help clients feel comfortable and happy with the entire process. I want to bring clients vision to life so they can cherish captured memories forever.
I am proud of becoming the photographer that I am because I have gain some of the BEST clients and friends through my passion behind the lens. I am proud of how far I have come in just a few years, while working another full time job as a Radiation Therapist. I am excited to grow and learn more to take my business to the next level to provide my clients, friends and family even better experiences and captured memories.
Professionally,I am here today with the support from clients, family, and friends.I will say there were times it was not easy at the beginning to gain clients, get exposure, and even parts of building a small business. What kept me in good spirits was the support and that photography is something that I LOVE to do because it is a creative expression that makes me happy. I don’t mind challenges, I take it as a learning experience to grow and reflect.
A funny lesson I have learned is always as a photographer have a charged spare battery. Years ago I had a contest for high school graduation photos and gave out 2 free sessions. At one of the sessions, I did not realize I left my camera on in my bag and a few buttons were pressed for a few hours causing the battery to drain completely before the session. We all arrive and talk poses and as soon as I grab my camera to capture, that is when I realized it drained. Luckily my sweet clients just laughed with me and we rescheduled and successfully captured a beautiful high school graduate.
My brand reflects a lot of who I truly am as a person. Creating Simply Mo Photography is an extension of my creative side, girl boss side, and being my authentic self. I love to capture authentic moments, natural vivid colors, and provide a little slice of joy to everyone that I meet. My message to the world: I can’t wait to meet you and capture your joy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the following: -Grandscape in the colony especially to Perrys Pizzeria and taphouse
-Little elm beach to go paddle boarding with DFW Surf
-the allen outlets to shop
-my favorite mexican restaurant in frisco – Dos Amigos and Cava my favorite lunch stop.
– Coffee trips to Summer moon in frisco, lemma coffee co in downtown Carrollton, Lala land kind cafe in Dallas.
The most fun things that I enjoy is getting to enjoy quality time with friends and family no matter what we are doing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have more than 1 person I would like to thank! This includes all my family, friends, my fiance, and clients for allowing me to pursue something that I love and always encouraging me every step of the way. I love getting to capture families grow every year and my returning clients who support me and hype me up along the way. For that I am very grateful to capture it all. To all my brides who have allowed me to be apart of their special day, to the professionals needing headshots for their business profiles, to my friends who allow me to capture them and show how beautiful they are. Thank you to everyone!
