We had the good fortune of connecting with Monsieur Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monsieur, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be known as the Duke of Fashion. Someone who has empowered both men and women through my fashion. When people hear of my name Monsieur Alexander, they will know I brought The Dream, The Luxury, and just Pure Elegance to the fashion table. I want people to always remember that I was always willing to lend a helping hand to others to give them a platform to showcase their talents for the world to see. Never selfish, always helping.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a fashion designer, I designed for both men and women.

I currently along with my boyfriend Michael Childs formed a organization called Dallas Future Fashion Designers, where we merge different forms of arts together to bring you a one of a kind show instead of your regular boring fashion runway show. Dallas Future Fashion Designers is a platform that I wanted to create to help give up and coming designers who are selected a chance to show their fashion talents as a designer. We come up with a theme for the show and we create a whole theater experience that will center around the fashion who are the true stars of the show. There’s, a whole theater play, music, dance and fashion show combined into one big element for entertaining our audience. We just had our first showcase on September 9th and the 10th both shows were sold out. So many people enjoyed such a unique and different experience that was clearly needed in the fashion world. We also just opened up our fashion exhibition called Into the Jungle, which the show was based off of, and it is currently being hosted at the South Dallas Cultural Center till October 8th. As you can see this is my proudest, and greatest achievement to this date. I was able to get two students from Wade College Taylor Sharper, and Jose Martinez, and was able to bless them with a check for taking part in this fashion showcase. I didn’t want my designers to have to pay to be apart of this show, so my boyfriend who is Co Founder of DFFD we were able to get a grant from the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Cultural program to help put on the show along with some very nice generous sponsors to help raise what was needed on putting this show together.

It definitely has not been easy for me on this journey, but I keep pushing through. When I was in fashion school (By the way it was not Wade college lol I didn’t go there. One of my favorite teachers from the school I went to move over to Wade and that’s how I was able to partner up with them. Thank you Dr. Jason Stanford for that help with Wade. I just had to put that side note in there, so there is no confusion.) so when I was in fashion school I remember not knowing to much really about fashion, I just really wanted to learn how to sew my own clothes and learn how to be in business for myself. It was not till I had to do a fashion history paper on who is now my favorite designer, we are so much alike, and so many important dates and events that took place in his life correlates to important dates in mines. I’m talking about the one and only Christian Dior. I am a huge fan of Dior. His life story and his work open my eyes up to fashion and I really had a brand new outlook on what fashion truly was. At that time John Galliano who is absolutely one of the Kings of fashion was the head of the house and that was a wrap for me. I knew what I was called to do. I fell in love with Galliano, Alexander McQuuen, Elie Saab, and Tom Ford and from there my designs became bold and very elaborate. I was told by a advisor there at school when it came time to graduate in the career service department she told me , “You not really like a real designer, you are more a costume designer. Why don’t you go to Vegas and make costumes?” It’s the way she said it with such disdain in her voice towards me that I knew she was insulting me and my talents. It hurt me deep in my feelings. I met different people along the way trying to make a name for myself and they took advantage of me. Used me for all they could, made a bunch of empty promises and like a fool who was hungry for acceptance I fell straight into the predictors hands. They used me up, so much so when they was done with me I was left sitting there looking like a raisin. I was just dried up, but you know God has a way of keeping you watered do that you don’t stay dry for long. He took the desires of my heart, and he kept showing me clips of what my life will be like. He placed me in different work places, and situations to where my creativity would be shown and I would gain faithful encouragers to pursue what I was called to do. I went from decorating office spaces for the holidays at work, to doing a pop up museum concept on Black History, where I designed this beautiful exhibit on Black Lives Matter. There stood in the middle of the exhibit where see different pictures from slavery, Civil Rights movement, to Black Lives Matter all the way to black excellence, there stood a Queen called Queen Yemjoa who I designed mother of mankind and in her hand was this white sheet with the names of people who we had lost to police brutality or just senseless killing period as if she was receiving these spirits of these people home. It was powerful, and emotional. It was on the news and it made the Dallas Morning Newspaper as one of the things to go and see. From there my inbox was blowing up on when will I do a fashion show. So I did not just the show, but created a whole organization as I mentioned earlier Dallas Future Fashion Designers.

Lessons that I have learned along the way is this…”Don’t worry about man’s acceptance, when God’s approval is all that you need.” God put that in my spirit, in other words do what HE. called you to do, and see if HE won’t elevate you to a level where you never thought you would be. Don’t worry about a seat at someone else’s table, fir the invitation may never come. Instead create your own table and be careful who you let sit at your table. Not everyone is meant to bring you good, but to be a locust and to see what they can eat up from you. Let that minister to your soul.

What I want the world to know about my brand is simply this: Monsieur Alexander is where you go to make your fashion dreams a reality. Wearing my clothes you will definitely standout, I create nothing but statement pieces. My brand is for those who know they are Royalty, they are the head and not the tail. Monsieur Alexander is definitely for those who wants to look sexy, but still have class about themselves. You will not be showing all of your yes mam’s in my clothes, what needs to be co seed will be covered. You will look heavenly blessed when I’m done with you lol. I’m joking, but you still will cover up what needs to be cover. We want the mean to be curious about what he see, leave a little mystery to yourself, if he wants to see the rest, then he have to past the test BLOOP!!!!!! My brand is center around the title Duke, I know we are all kings and queens in our own right and it’s not to take away from such a over used title, but I wanted to create my brand based on the titles of the Duke and Duchess. Being that I’m called as my boyfriend calls me The Grande Duke of Fashion what better way for me to explore this Dukedom and see if I was a Duke or a Duchess what would be in my closet? If you want to know to what would be in their closet then follow me on my Instagram monsieur_alexander2019 and on Facebook Monsieur Alexander and we can make this discovery together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man I haven’t been out in so long I would need them to take me out lol. This past year and half I have definitely become a homebody since I was working hard with trying to develop my new fashion organization Dallas Future Fashion Designers which you can visit our website www.dallasfuturefashiondesigners.com. But first thing is first we going to head on over to the South Dallas Cultural Center and see my fashion Exhibition that I have up over there, and then we may be going to La Hacienda Ranch to eat and have drinks from there we going home lol. The next day go shopping at North Park Mall, and now that the Immersed King Tut exhibition is opening we will grab tickets and go see that. Afterwards go eat at Cheesecake Factory or P.F.Chang’s and the next day we are not doing anything lol. I will cook up my fried cabbage, make a peach cobbler, or mg mix berry cake, turn my electric smoker on and put on some ribs, seafood, steaks on the smoker and let that cook and depending how I’m feeling I just may make my smoked 10cheese Mac and cheese. This why have cholesterol issues now lol and why I don’t cook unless it’s the holidays lol. So that’s about it, I’m boring but in my presence we definitely going to laugh and probably play some card games and drink lol.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give a shout-out to my parents/family for believing in me, and always supporting me but most of all my beautiful boyfriend Michael Childs who has really help push me out of my comfort zone of talking about my business, but never putting in the work to actually work the business that God has called me to do. I have to thank Harley too, even though he’s my boyfriend’s dog, he loves me like I am his owner, in fact I think the dog thinks I’m dating him lol. Michael and Harley both brings my heart so much joy, and I just don’t think I could have made it without them two.
