We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Randle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This question is a little difficult. My project starts and ends in my home, my main character is my son, the love I have for this project is never-ending, I will never get tired of sharing wins, I will never get tired of being someone’s advocate or shoulder to cry on. The magnitude and complexity of emotions that derive from medical challenges range from confusion to joy and sometimes anger and happiness. I want children and families to know we should always celebrate life even if it’s one small win at a time, life is an adventure but that doesn’t mean it will always be easy, we all need to remember that. It has been tough for many years but I will never stop enjoying this life I have been given with my boy. The most exciting part of this journey is sharing these stories with strangers and walking away with new friends and being told they feel inspired. I love that most.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For sure Bolder in Grand Prairie, this place has easily become a favorite of ours. There is so much to do for the family big and small around Dallas. TopGolf is always a good time as well as Legacy Hall when they’re hosting events and have band tributes. If they’re into shopping I would recommend some local shops in Lowest Greenville, Bishops Arts District or the Galleria Mall. Some of my favorite eating experiences are DeLucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine, Beto’s in Trinity Groves, or Campuzanos! And now, I am hungry! A few additional spots to check out are AT&T District, Klyde Warren, Dallas Art Museum, Upstairs Circus and Cidercade Dallas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a lot of moving parts to book publishing that are unknown, I am thankful for the educational conversations and many resources from WiseInk, the mentors like Hannah in Marketing, my project manager Patrick and the team that met with me weekly to answer questions to help me better understand timelines and end results. I am also SO grateful for my family and close friends who reviewed the book, gave me feedback on edits and offered their evenings to hear my thoughts on different options.
