We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
What a great question! My end goal is pretty simple. I hope to empower more women and men to embrace their curly hair, their natural locs, their born in style with excitement. I want them to not only feel good after leaving their appointment but confident in how they style their hair at home in between services. I love what I do and what more could you ask for when it comes to the work you do. I get a fresh sense of accomplishment with each client I service and in the end, I know I would have made a difference in so many lives.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Blue’s Barbershop and Curly Haven. I started out as a Barbershop for men and women doing haircuts, hair coloring, and shaving. I have been more focused on only servicing Curly Hair clients for the last, coming up on 5 years now. What sets me apart is 85% of my clientele are Curly hair clients. I have some long time clients who will not let me go and I’m grateful for their loyalty! To get where I am today, I continually study my craft and look for all the new information that I can convey to my clients to keep them in-the-know with their locs. I’ve learned patience from the first day I opened my salon and my trust and faith in God has sustained me, even through a global pandemic. I’m excited to see what the future holds for my business.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout goes to a friend who helped me realize the love I was missing. Her name is Lissa and she encouraged me to venture out of my comfort zone because she saw my knowledge of curls and natural texture with how I styled my own hair. I studied at The Deva Curl hair academy in New York to receive certification, and from the first course, I know I had found just where I needed to be and what had been missing in my career. So Thank You Lissa for seeing what I had not yet seen in me!
