We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica McCaskill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I have so many dreams and goals for my career. Like any serious Designer, I’d love to have my work published in several prestigious design magazines , such a Traditional Home and Architectural Digest. Collaborate with a manufacturer to create my own line of design goods… most likely something in textiles. Of course design a room in a Show Home or two ( if you have never been to one, you must). Lastly, I think Id love to do some kind of design business coaching. This is such a hard industry to thrive in and I’d like to help some young, amazing designers learn to navigate it a little better than I have.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have learned that being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. There are days that I want to toss my phone in the trash because I have so much coming my way as far as clients, vendors, contractors, etc. bringing me all their problems and questions, and then there are other days that make it all worth it. I love what I do, in fact I am passionate about it. I am constantly learning something new whether its intentional or by happen stance. Learning only makes me a better Designer so that I can better serve my clients and I look forward to the future in this ever evolving industry of Interior Design.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat. I don’t know so much about the cool bars or places to hangout, but I can recommend some food… For the best steak around, I love Bob’s Chop House, any location. It never disappoints. Other great places to me are The Charles in Dallas, Ocean Prime, Gloria’s, Rise, anywhere that has a good soup. I could eat soup when its 100 degrees out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my husband, Sam. He supports me and my dreams everyday, as long as they arent too expensive, lol. Seriously, we both work out of our home and he sees all the wild things that comes along with being a designer, such as boxes of clients items delivering to our home and taking up space, listening to all client and vendor phone calls, and the stress of me often trying to learn something knew so I can keep in the design world. He is usually the first set of eyes on a new design I am working and he gives me feed back. Best of all, when you are in this industry you get invited to a lot of events for vendors or other designers and Sam is always my plus one. He has often been one of few men that go, but he is there supporting me, chit chatting with my colleagues and of course enjoying the free drinks and food,
