We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Maynard Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
The quote is definitely “run your race.” Putting your best foot forward and having your own story and not focusing on what’s going on next to you or behind you and that includes for yourself too. Another quote is “comparison is a thief of joy” and in our day and time and in our business we are always aware of what others are doing and it’s easy to get sidetracked. Stay focused on doing your best and giving your best everyday- the only person you should compare yourself to is who you were the day before.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s been a journey that is constantly evolving and requires the flexibility to adapt to ever changing demands. My career is definitely an example of how you never know where life is going to take you. Fifteen years ago when I took real estate classes with my Dad, I never imagined that I would have brokerage firms in both TX and OK giving me the opportunity to assist others in investing in what some say is the biggest investment of our lives, whether that be your primary residence or a second home in Broken Bow, OK. I also never could have imagined that my husband and I would be able to share in designing and building our own properties and creating the Glamcations brand. The challenges are that it is an ever changing market. You have to be able to adapt to market changes and recreate your brand to go with the current demand, whatever that may be. Speaking of quotes, there is this one, “nothing worth having is easy.” That is a very true statement when it comes to owning your own business. There aren’t set hours, it’s all your responsibility and there is no else to blame. Although in saying in all that, the learning lesson has been that you reach a point in your business when you find that in order to grow, you have to release control and find others that you can depend on. Finding a team of trusted professionals to work alongside you is the only way to overcome those challenges because you can’t do it all on your own.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would plan to take my best friend just 3 hours northeast of Dallas to Broken Bow which has been coined as “The Hamptons of Dallas”! We would stay in one of the Glamcations Properties; The Barndo, The Barndito or The Vineyard (coming soon)! We would grab a lunch to go from Rolling Fork Takery and have a picnic on the shores of Broken Bow Lake. After that we would go kayaking and maybe even venture out for a hike on one of the trails. To wrap up the day we would hit up Girls Gone Wine and then grab dinner at Mountain Fork Brewery! Throughout the week we would enjoy relaxing in the hot tub, morning coffee on the patio surrounded by nature and possibly a scenic drive down the Talimena National Scenic Byway that is known for spectacular fall foliage and gorgeous floral displays in the spring. If we were feeling adventurous we might rent a boat and take in more sights of Broken Bow Lake which sits at the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains and covers 14,000 acres with 180 miles of lush tree covered natural shoreline. If we were craving more adventure, we could saddle up and grab the reins for a horseback ride the the forested mountain trails with beautiful vistas and mountain views. Last but not least, we would definitely want to schedule a massage therapist to come to the cabin for an in-cabin massage!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely want to give credit to my Dad for teaching me the value of hard work. He ran his own business and did property investment as well. He started taking real estate classes and I wanted to spend time with him so we did it together. Looking back, one of the most important things he instilled in me is that nothing is given to you and that if you want something life, you need to figure out a way to get it. I would also want to recognize my husband who is also my business partner for the vision behind the floorpans and elevations that he brings to our Glamcations brand. From the beginning, we have worked together as a team to collaborate and bring these visions to life.
