We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Hudson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I worked in the retail and fashion industry for 15 years prior to becoming a stay at home mom in 2017. Although I loved my time home with my babies, I was always searching for something as a creative outlet and fulfill my passion for fashion. I knew I didn’t want to go back to the corporate world. I got inspired after meeting Annie Schmidt from SOS organization. She started her own organization company from the ground up starting with friends and Instagram. I created a name, had some professional photos taken, and started an Instagram account to launch my business. Through word of mouth and referrals, I quickly gained business. Although Dallas is a large city, it sometimes feels like a small town because so many people are connected to each other and they love to spread the word about a business they love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started The Wardrobe Editor solely on my passion for fashion and helping others feel good. Nothing makes me feel better than helping others feel good in what they wear. My first job in fashion was at Neiman Marcus during the Christmas season my freshman year of college. I continued to work in luxury retail sales until I graduated. After graduation, I moved to New York City with few connections and no friends- just a goal to pursue my dreams to live in New York City and work in fashion. After a couple of months and bumps along the way, I landed a job in the buying office at Saks Fifth Avenue. After a couple of years, I was homesick for Dallas and decided to move back. Once again, with a few bumps and hurdles- I tried out a few jobs in wholesale and jewelry, but two years later I ended up back at Neiman Marcus in their buying office. I love luxury retail. I stayed there until I became a mom and decided to stay home and raise my daughter. I love being able to stay home with my girls but I still yearned for a creative outlet. I was always the go-to person for my friends for any fashion advice- I would send links, pictures, all the things. After seeing my friend successfully launch an organization business solely through friends and instagram, I decided to take the plunge. I started an instagram account, got a logo made, and spread the word. That was 18 months ago and it’s been great! What sets me apart from other stylists is I will shop anywhere. What makes an outfit interesting is not head to toe one brand. I might put you in a $20 top and $200 jeans. I like to really mix it up especially for trendy pieces. I don’t think you should invest a lot of money in trendy pieces that you might only wear for one season. But I do think you should invest in classic or basics that you will wear a lot. It’s all about cost per wear. I like to invest in handbags and shoes. Those can add the best punch to any outfit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas has some of the best restaurants and shopping. Not only do I love to give fashion advice, I love giving restaurant recommendations. Give me your scenario- and I”ll plan your night! For a fun girls night: El Carlos Elegante and drinks and dancing at Double D’s afterwards
I live in Lakewood and my favorite date night spot is St. Martins and a glass of wine at Bodega afterwards.
For a day of shopping: Northpark Mall with lunch at Mermaid Bar in Neiman Marcus. Or Highland Park Village on a Friday afternoon with drinks and late lunch on the patio at Honor Bar (best people watching in Dallas)
For a weekend staycation, I would stay at the Joule, best spa in Dallas, and have a steak dinner at Town Hearth.
Best sushi- Oiishi (original Wycliff location)
Favorite on the go spot- Eatzi’s. We desperately need them to open in East Dallas. PLEASE!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Annie Schmidt, with SOS Organization, she encouraged me to get started, gave me great advice, my first official client, and helped me with client referral.
