We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Starr Reuland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Missy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been a very independent person. I’ve never been the 9-5 type. I wanted to get my personal vision out to the world, no strings attached and no one looking over my shoulder.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was a stay at home mom from 1997-2019. I raised 3 incredible children and also took care of my niece and nephew all those years. Once the two youngest girls went away to college in 2019, I assumed I had fulfilled my purpose; I was done.
I began to spin out and I asked God to show me what to do to fulfill my next purpose.
He showed me art. I fell in love at the MOMA in NYC. I had been several times before, but this time was different.
I took it all in and I came alive again.
The moment I returned home, I purchased canvas and paints and started painting.
I was awful at first so I went to more galleries and studied artists.
I finally found my way through much trial and error.
I began to dream in color. When I close my eyes, colors are all I see. That’s what I paint.
I paint bright, joyful colors because I want to bring my joy to the world through my art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Bishop Arts District. It’s always buzzing with excitement and fun crowds. The art galleries, the restaurants and shops never disappoint. I live in arlington so my new favorite spot is the new Loews Hotel. It’s classy and the energy is great. The bar is beautifully decorated and Farena Italian Restaurant is delicious.
I would definitely spend our days at the two enticing pools.
Then, of course, shopping and brunch at Clearfork in Fort Worth, then an evening at Clyde Warren Park in Dallas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family are my biggest supporters. My husband, Paul, and my children, Logan, Ryan and Brennan.
