We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriam, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Mexico. So being able to give quality photography to my culture is really important. Mexican culture values family and family events so much so I always knew I wanted to stay genuine and colorful with my editing style. I like to inform and instruct people on what looks best even though it’s not always the pretty background they expected. My main subject is always my client.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to make sure I’m always complimenting my clients with my work. It’s not always easy sometimes it gets discouraging when things don’t go as planned but they truly have to be perceived as learning opportunities. I think my biggest lesson has been value your work and your time. I think as long as you value your art then people will follow you. I have people from out of state come to see me for photo shoots and it’s the biggest compliment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I can have a great time anywhere but we love to support Latin based communities and businesses. We would probably go to San Martin Bakery for brunch and then go for a walk around Katy trail then do some shopping around the Bishop Arts area. I like a colorful place. Dallas has soo much to offer as far as cuisine and great activities almost every weekend.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I constantly hear my favorite photographers always express how important it is to have a community to share tips and experiences with. I think it’s very important to get to know other people in your field and learn from them. Some of my favorites are Cindy Swanson and Jacklynn Lomeli
