We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The flexibility and freedom from working a 9-5 or supplemental income
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently the Presiding Judge for the Justice of the Peace court in Dallas County. I got to where I am today by working as a Real Estate Broker, college professor, and previous career in municipal government. It was not an easy task due to balancing work life and constantly hitting job promotional ceilings. I have learned to become humble and to let the world know that you can do and sky is the limit, literally. Stay motivated and surround your self with like-minded people or ones that you push you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After a steady and packed work schedule, I would do numerous things. First I would take a nap or get some down time to recharge. From there, I would take my best friend(s) out for drinks at a bar or mellow lounges to regroup. Cigars are most definitely in order. If a trip is involved, we would consider meeting up at a city with a beach or going out of the country to get a change of scenery.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to first give recognition to God because without him this story does not exist. My success is driven from watching how hard my mother work to provide for me and my brother as a single mother. I acquired self-motivation that inspired me to learn different professions to do more than work a 8-5 job. My wife and kids are the driving force to make sure they never struggle as I did before.
