We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Lyles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always known that I wanted to start my own business, the premise-based around having an end goal to be a residential developer. So overall, my thought process has always been to make as many strides towards my end goal as possible.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Lyles Home Design is a minority woman-owned Custom Home Design+Build firm. I started my business in 2011, and have completed a wide variety of projects from small renovations and additions, to new construction full rebuilds. It has been quite a memorable journey for me, and even some of the harder lessons that I’ve had to learn have been fruitful for my growth and development.
My biggest lesson is to always think ahead to remain a few steps ahead.
The most important thing for my business is to place a positive impact on the people whose lives we interact with. Our goal has always been to help our clients in any way we can, and sometimes that’s not always with us providing full-service design, but just a helping hand in the right direction!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend loves the beach and shopping, so I would surprise her with a beach trip likely to the Florida Keys. We would stay at a very high-end boutique hotel, preferably with a view. She’d want to try all of the foods, so I would find the best-rated local restaurants for us to eat and drink at. We’d probably do a bit of local sightseeing but mostly hang out on the beach.
There are so many different places to visit, and each destination offers a different energy and people engagement, but the most fun and interesting experiences that I have had are impromptu locations I followed my gut to explore. I’ve met so many amazing and encouraging people throughout my travels, but always just go with the flow and rush nothing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have entered and exited my life over the years, and so many experiences that have shaped me to be the person that I am continuing to grow in today that leaves me with an endless ‘thank you’ list! Having an amazing support circle has by far been the most encouraging for me.
