We had the good fortune of connecting with Michaela Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michaela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, I only wanted to create custom apparel for me and my family. I wanted to be able to quickly make a t-shirt with random sayings I may have thought of at any moment… and know that I was the only one walking around with that design.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jones Inck is a black-owned/women-owned custom apparel company that my sister-in-law (Christa Jones) and I started out of my garage November 2020. One day we decided to turn our hobby into our business, and we’ve been growing ever since. Christa and I started off making holiday/birthday shirts here and there, but that quickly turned into making merchandise for small businesses in the area. We have since created bundles for companies that are just getting started and need professional attire. Our goal is to not only provide custom apparel for small business, but school districts, churches, and corporations as well.

We are coming up on our 2 year anniversary, and the process has not been easy. With no guidance, and lots of research, we have managed to move into an office suite (located in Duncanville, Tx), secure business filings, trademark, and also upgraded our customization methods to ensure the quality of our products. A few things that has helped us succeed is keeping open/honest communication with our customers, handling each customer with care and concern, as well as constant prayer over our business. Our customer’s satisfaction is our #1 priority.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ha! I struggle with this now… Building a brand can often leave you little time for a social life, but I’ll give it a try. I like live music, so maybe checking out a few bands in Deep Ellum. There are a lot of spots there you can grab good drinks and food, in addition to entertainment…. it’s like a one-stop shop lol. Turkeyd.a.m is a vibe on Sundays… also, I want to try the Suburban Yacht Club in Plano, so I would drag them along with me :-)…. I really don’t get out much, so that’s all I have.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my parents who show me daily what love, hard work, and dedication looks like.
